Below is an article I JUST HAD TO SHARE...seems that our friends (cough, cough) at the NRC are holding a meeting tomorrow in Rockland Maryland on (of all things) the topic of what horrid accidents and near misses at Nuclear Plants THEY SHOULD SHARE WITH THE PUBLIC! Now that news should make everyone so VERY HAPPY here in the area surrounding Indian Point. If everyone wants to have some fun, call up and JOIN THE CONFERENCE, voice your opinions.

After studying for years about the lies told to the American people in order to manufacture two radiological wars, I have to admit that it takes a whole lot these days to surprise me. Still, I find the gall of those tasked with radioactively assaulting us (in the name of providing energy, national security, and defense) to be almost beyond belief. In fact, I’m having trouble closing my jaw after reading this piece in the Lynchburg News titled, “Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks input on whether to open up.”

It is nearly unfathomable to me that the NRC would have the audacity to ask for our two cents on whether or not they should candidly release to the public the dangerous mishaps, disasters, and near-disasters committed at nuke facilities around this irradiated nation. Ostensibly, they pretend to be in a quandary over their perceived “transparency” and whether or not we want them to communicate the truth about their aging, decrepit 103 nuclear reactors (or 157, if McCain gets the job) and other radioactive facilities over which it reportedly oversees.

Oh how charming that the US Nuclear Radiating Committee takes us all for utter morons! This week, a stone’s throw away from the national district of crime, the NRC will be making out as if they’re just not so sure how important it is to reveal the truth about nuclear accidents and “leaks” – or, would we just prefer to skip all the dirty little details and be kept (glowingly) in the dark?

Thanks to the Departments of [Nukuler] Energy and War, our citizens are being “dosed” with steady doses of invisible, daily emissions of life-destroying, disease-causing, radioactive gasses. And now, in the midst of the job, they’re basically asking us how much we want to know about the whole stinkin’ dirty deal? I mean, they’ve been nuking this nation ever since the nuclear bombing of the US first began in New Mexico sixty-three (63) years ago, but we’re just now being asked whether or not the federal nuking agency is transparent enough for our druthers?

These hazardous aerosols, which contaminate our air, water, and soil, are routinely released by these aging dinosaurs of nuclear power plants and by Uranium weapons national “research” laboratories and radioactive materials “test” sites where radioactive materials (e.g., Depleted Uranium and Tritium) are blasted regularly into our air.

Yet suddenly now, the quite off-balanced and undeniably twisted Uncle Sam, on his augmented, hell-bent drive for even greater enviro-destruction and wasting of public health, has the Chutzpah to ask our opinion? Isn’t it a bit odd that the feds now want to appear like they give a darn whether or not we want to know all the gritty details when things go a bit (or a lot) awry at these federal poison factories? Isn’t that like asking us if we would like to be informed that our kids’ chewing gum is being laced with rat poison (Aspartame) – or would we simply rather not know?

This is a blatant admission that yes, radiological “accidents” [sic] can and do happen, and those in charge are positioning themselves as being candid about “nuking” us with these radiological releases. Yet curiously, we are expected to believe that, as if a naughty pre-adolescent prankster-with-a-guilty conscience, the federal nukers now, for some inexplicable reason, somehow feel compelled to solicit our preference for becoming either informed-and-irradiated citizens – or, for having the “privilege” of just not knowing?

This just doesn’t make any sense at all. Those in power have been promiscuously bombarding us from coast to coast with radioactive materials for into the seventh decade. And we’d be utter fools to believe they have even a bit of desire to be transparent about any of it at this (late) stage of the game.

Appearances count, I suppose, when you are talking about nuking your population. And good will – or rather, the charade of appearing to possess it-matters. This is the psychological justification for asking Americans just how transparent we want our nuclear irradiators to be. It’s all about public perception and people getting the (mistaken) notion that those who blast our atmosphere and environment with radiation actually care to hear our viewpoints on how open they should be about their nuclear sins and transgressions.

Politically, as part of the game plan to continuously try to make Americans believe that something resembling democracy actually exists, this pro-nuke push has all been spelled out for us by the two puppets positioned for symbolic leadership at the helm. And while I do not generally commend members of the GOP, one has to give credit where credit is rightfully due. At least McCain has been transparent with his nukuler stance, making it crystal clear, in no uncertain terms, that he loves the heck out of nuclear power.

Obama has been almost as openly supportive of new nukes, telling us he is going to “find ways to safely harness nuclear power.” Yet, Obama, the supposedly more “progressive” of the two lame non-choices - who provide a public presence merely for our political distraction and bemusement- must have some secret, magical trick up his sleeve regarding how he plans on keeping us “safe,” given the predictable break-downs of old, worn-down parts and leaky fixtures… casualties of decades of use in these creaky old nuke power plants. Well, either that or Obama’s certifiably delusional. Take your pick.

In other words, it would be ludicrous to believe that Obama has any intent of putting his behind on the line to stop the hugely expanding nukuler “biz” anytime soon. Nope, our other political figurehead is merely just another business-as-usual, nuke-industry lover, hiding behind the more historically eco-friendly political party for disguise!

Rest assured of one thing, America. Like it or not, unless we take action –in an unprecedented, magnificently huge way – and fast? We are only going to continue to be nuked – and increasingly “dosed” at that - over time. And we can be fully confident in the absolute certainty our federal nukers are only upping our health-destroying “dose” as we speak.

The agenda is quite clearly stated by the US Government as it stands today, as they busily scramble to approve the construction of nearly three dozen more nuclear reactors around the nation. And if you’re still not convinced this is a concerted effort for a nukuler “resurgence” (that is, nukes, nukes, and more nukes in fast ‘n’ furious pace)? Please don’t take my word for it, but just take a gander at the US Department of [Nukuler] Energy’s Global Nuclear Energy Partnership website.

This international wealth-building endeavor pairs up governments and corporations for all kinds of lusciously lucrative financial deals together. We’ve cozied up first with the French government, becoming entangled in French AREVA’s nuclear tentacles into the Chesapeake Bay at Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant and other US nuclear sites.

And the rampant build-up of nuclear power and re-processing plants has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with citizen safety - nor about providing clean sources of energy either, for that matter. As stated on the best anti-nuclear blog around, the Green Nuclear Butterfly, “Nuclear energy is neither safe, nor green, and the time to seek a different pathway to energy independence without nuclear is upon us.”

All nuclear power plants emit lethal radionuclides into our environment, toxically and radioactively contaminating our air, water, and soil. Some of these hazardous materials remain in our environment for millions – even billions of years.

By now you might be asking yourself just what’s a concerned citizen who doesn’t quite appreciate being nuked - either transparently or not - to do? Why not consider taking a road trip or hopping on a plane to suburban Maryland right outside the nation’s capital if you’re able to get here on Thursday, September 4? If you can’t come to the capital area that day (or can’t stomach the stench emanating out of this corrupt city) you can instead make plans to participate via Teleconference.

It is high time all of us who object to the growing radiological poisoning of the United States environment and people stand together and protest this escalating domestic-nuking madness. It is clearly obvious the Nuclear Radiation Committee needs now to feel some mighty tremendous “heat”…that is, the “heat” of our malcontent citizens… a fever borne of justified, outraged indignation concerning the “heat” from man-made radiation, which the federal nukers’ cell-damaging, destroying, and mutating nukuler life-obliterating equipment and Uranium weapons “toys” emit.

And in making your decision about coming to the place where all nukuler dreams are borne, incubated, and grown, please consider the implications of *not* acting upon the augmented, purposeful, slow-cooking-by-nukes… of our nation – our land, nature, wildlife, and people.

Unlike Oliver Twist, we simply must not accept the garbage – in this case deadly radioactive hazards - we are inhaling, drinking, and being fed. We must never forget that our government operates only through our funding… and our good graces.

Isn’t it time, therefore, that we stand shoulder to shoulder and tell our public nukers, in no uncertain terms: No, Sir, I do not want some more of your nuclear pollution and contamination! That’s right, Sir, we do not want some more of your radioactive poisons! In fact, Sir, we’ve already had quite more than Enough!

It is high time, after all, that we insist that our federal government not just clear the air about what they are doing – but rather, demand they stop contaminating the air (and water and soil), as well.

Curious Here Why IPSEC Is Not Filing 2.206 Petitions?

Hello all...been sitting here on the sidelines all these months dealing with my wife's Indian Point caused breast cancer, and watching Entergy (so far) successfully swatting at the Anti Nuclear flies buzzing around the hearings on their License Renewal Application. (Think Riverkeeper, Clearwater, even the state Attorney General) Meanwhile, the turn coat Congressman John Hall not surprisingly has been all but SILENT in the fight, far more concerned with getting elected two more times too secure his pension than taking on the issues and keeping his campaign promise to do everything in his power to shut down Indian Point(but then Hilliary is no better)...curious here how many people see taking money from a Pro Nuclear Industry union as doing everything one can to shut down Indian Point? Maybe I'll put my house on the market and Entergy can buy it so that I can move out of the area...NOW THERE WOULD BE A STORY! Hey Steets, give me a call!

Anyway, back to 2.206 petitions...I long ago told many of the powers that be in the Anti Nuclear Movement that the most successful way of shutting down Indian Point(or any other facility) was to swamp NRC's office staff with an avalanche of paperwork...that strategy would and could still work. Or has everyone missed the articles on the HUGE MAN POWER SHORTAGE in the industry, including at the NRC? As example, the latest news on Earthquake faults coupled with the DEC's findings on fish kills opens up a whole new avenue for additional filings against Entergy and their crumbling Indian Point reactors over in Buchanan, NY. Has anyone contacted Underwater Welding in Connecticut to find out about the huge gash made in the spent fuel pool? (For that matter, has the NRC bothered to contact Sam Vale to find out what he knows about it?)

As for Indian Point's security against a terrorist attack...here's an idea for Entergy to contemplate. How about letting the citizens put together a DBT exercise in real time with a hand picked group of citizens armed with paintball guns? The citizens successfully infiltrate the plant, and land accurate shots on sensitive equipment, and Entergy forfeits their license? Say and attack team equivalent to that which attacked us on 9/11. Meanwhile, can anyone at the NRC explain why a high powered 50 cal rifle was taken off the list of weapons that Entergy and all other nuclear reactors have to defend against was taken off the list? After all, just about anyone so inclined could get their hands on one...rumor has it that said rifle is a favorite of LA Gangs. Could it have anything to do with the fact that a 50 cal. rifle with the right ammo makes Indian Points bullet resistent glass in their guard towers obsolete? Enquiring minds want to know. I am sure the CLOSED DOOR meetings with the NEI had nothing to do with it.

By the way...I said it before, and based on the adjudiction board's decisions so far in the Indian Point License Renewal, the three judge panel is a bunch of Pro Industry Pricks and stupid ones at that. Maybe they should look into security guards at the plant turning their backs while employees sneak their girlfriends into the facility for a little bump and grind away from the prying eyes of their spouses...whoops, shouldn't repeat what we hear in the local bars now should we? Even if what we heard came out of the lips of Indian Point staff. Face it folks...the board wants to get Indian Point relicensed before a serious accident happens at the plant...I base that on a letter I foundd on the White House web site from NEI, but then some would go so far as to call me a conspiracy nut even if they themselves don't trust George Bush and Dick Cheney.

In unrelated news...perhaps if Sarah Palin had taught her daughter about safe sex instead of preaching to her about abstinance, we would not have John McCain's vice presidential pick's daughter getting ready to give birth to a bastard child. Talk about a ticket...let's see, she is accused of trying to get her sister's former husband fired, her own husband is convicted of a DUI, and John McCain is an adulter by self admission...talk about FAMILY VALUES! Should be a fun fall for the Democrats, even if John Hall did LIE TO US.

Know Nukes

Sherwood resurfaces for air!

I just spent an hour on the phone with Sherwood this evening... he's been camping upstate New York, hosted a great tiki party for a hundred people... been riding around in a golf car with Shut Down Indian Point stickers all over it... he promised to post a picture to the blog. But that's not what I logged back on to write about.

Remember when the NRC wouldn't allow Sherwood to file his own contentions for FUSE USA because he'd gone and called the judges a bunch of pro-nuclear pricks? Well, the NRC allowed Sherwood to refile everything, doubling our labor and our cost of printing and shipping, under different names.

So guess whose signature sits at the bottom of the 500 pages of contentions Sherwood filed under the name of FUSE USA? Three people.

For all intent and purposes, until I find out any differently, these contentions are in good order, have been accepted by the NRC, giving John LeKay, Heather Burns-DeMelo and myself legal standing in the contentions process.

Ah... but would it only be that simple. When three board members of FUSE USA walked away with Sherwood's PDF files, then refiled them as their own for Clearwater, IPSEC and a couple other organizations, Sherwood was never compensated for the work he did, the computer he bought, the hours he put in.

Many of the contentions filed by these ex-FUSE USA board members were all thrown out by the NRC because of legal technicalities. (Don't quote me, I got no idea about any of this stuff... ask Sherwood!) Exactly which ones are still standing and which ones are dead is unknown to me, since these ex-members have not shared this information with either myself or the general public.

Sherwood suggested I call the NRC and find out, since I have legal standing as a filer in the proceedings. I have always tried as best I could to avoid talking to anyone from the NRC, because I just give myself away when I do, except maybe for Richard S. Barkley, who I happen to like as a person, who has been acting as moderator between the general public and the NRC at all the meetings held at Colonial Terrace in Cortlandt Manor, NY.

Why can't Sherwood call the NRC himself you ask, since this isn't my forte, I'm just the PR viral marketing guy in this operation? Sherwood tells me he's got a stack of NRC letters piling up in his house which he hasn't opened, and threatened to throw them all in the garbage, unless someone comes up with the resources to continue his fight, our fight!

I got into this to WIN! I started working with Sherwood because I beleived he was the best man for the job, because he knew his stuff. I didn't ask these other ex-FUSE USA board members to come and spoil all the work we'd spent months building. And now, I find out, we're still in the running, but Sherwood won't put anymore time or money into this effort unless someone comes up with some money.

Just so you know, I'm the one who originally talked to Gail Merrill and convinced her that investing into the creation of FUSE USA was a good tactical move. She wrote a check for $10.000 to Joe Mangano's organization, under the stipulation that the matching funds be turned over to FUSE USA, which used that money to secure the services of its nuclear expert.

Other monies necessary to pursue the process, the printing of the contentions, each time the NRC had us do it over and over again, costing over $700 for each set, the travel, the research, etc... ad nauseum, were going to come from a concert FUSE USA had been planning at Riverspace in Nyack, a concert I came up with the bill for, the idea to bring Ani DiFranco and Pete Seeger together for a duet!

But it wasn't to be. When these ex-FUSE USA members left the organization, they took the concert with them, which had been one of them's responsibility to book through the Guacamole Fund. The only thanks I got, was being dragged into court for telling her to go to ELLE, having to borrow $1500 from my family so I could afford a lawyer to defend myself.

Bottom line, FUSE USA ended up with none of the proceeds from Ani's concert, costing me a fortune, while all these other organizations, whose contentions have since been thrown out by the NRC, profited from all the earnings, only to pay the salary of a man who did little else than sit around while Sherwood did the bulk of the work.

My desperate attempts to reach Ani DiFranco, who often played a nightclub called Wetlands in New York I helped create, fell on deaf ears... I wasn't able to get through, everyone on her staff played interference, while three witches labeled me a crazy man. Ani needs to know she ended up raising all that money for all the wrong people!

Other things transpired off course, this isn't all there is to it... But I think it's necessary to get all this out in the open, once and for all, wash our dirty laundry in public, save the lawyers to fight against the NRC, not each other, otherwise we're just going to lose... Indian Point will get its new license, and we will walk away beaten!

Sherwood, because he's always talked me into going out and getting money for him, which I am not happy doing... is still right in the sense that he holds a winning hand, and is therefor playing it. If we want to shut down Indian Point, we need Sherwood Martinelli, his expertise, and all the contentions he filed under the name FUSE USA.

What Riverkeeper, Clearwater, IPSEC and other groups have filed is not enough to deliver a killer blow to Entergy, but with the additional backing of FUSE USA's contentions, and the supporting research of someone like Sherwood Martinelli who has been investigating the NRC for over ten years, we stand a chance to get the job done, to win... not simply force Entergy to spend 1.7 billion on cooling towers, which Sherwood says will pay for themselves in just over a year in profits, but to shelter the plant forever... give the people of the Hudson Valley, its farmers, and the residents of Fairfield County, a sigh of relief... and a dramatic drop in cancer rates!

So wake up people, give Sherwood what he wants so FUSE USA can get back in business, (we've already lost our website!) and finish the job it set out to do... Don't let me be the only advocate of this strategy. I'm exhausted dealing with all the egos, the temper tantrums, the theft of property, the bad faith, the lies, it's NOT what I got into this fight to do, to baby sit a bunch of whinners! We got work to do, and it's all about to come together thanks to the support of the fashion industry, people like Christie Brinkley, who even though she has her own problems at home, still comes out swinging with a beautiful smile when she's required.

I hope this didn't bore you, because we're all guilty of massive BS behavior here... and in the end, the NRC, Entergy wins! The new space I created in Norwalk Connecticut, The Aquarium, is hosting an Indian Point general strategy meeting on Wednesday evening with members of the Connecticut Green Party. Join us if you can, make the drive... lets pick this back up. Lets finish what we started. Let's finish the job. Lets raise some money for FUSE USA, since that's the name the last standing contentions are filed under!

But don't count on Sherwood... He won't help unless he's paid... because he's seen how much money Ulrich Witte has made at his expense! There's a viable organization there in FUSE USA for who has the talent to bring it back into focus. I'm not a lawyer, I don't know how to do these things. It's basically sitting in a pile of broken Lego bricks... that have been kicked to the ground by evil ways, jealousy and puerile imbeciles! Myself included I guess.

In the meantime, the Indian Point time bomb ticks on, and nothing much is happening... when we could get it all going again... and kill the dragon on the hill. This time, send ME the money... I'll make sure it's spent the way it should. I don't trust anybody anymore. Because even though we may still be able to take down a bunch of old nuclear reactors, human nature on both side of this issue stinks in equal measure.

An update from the co-founder of this place!

Well, looks like Green Nuclear Butterfly is in the news again, with its owner Sherwood Martinelli mentioned in a post on the Hearst Daily Green blog, side by side with Rock The Reactors. We're going up in the world! Who knew that social climbing was a prerequisite to shutting down a nuke!

Where is Sherwood by the way... has he gone missing... it's like finding Waldo! Few days ago he allowed the FUSE USA website (RIP) to vanish from cyberspace, and with it, now countless dead links to anti-nuke history!

It's official, the headless horse woman of Sleepy Hollow killed it dead! Cause she was terrified of losing the good graces, falling out of favor with the sleek politico-jet-setters, afraid of an old dead head and a head banger!

But we did get the Intervener Petition and Contention process off the ground, that we did, that's ours, even though Riverkeeper, IPSEC and Clearwater kept telling us it's too late, it's hopeless, nobody has the time... forget about it! Fooee! Look at it now, Indian Point is the talk of town!!! The rallying point, the call to arms, the beacon on the Hudson!

And yet, to the headless horse woman's credit, Chris Walken having nothing on this horror, she did grasp the logic, fished our sad crew from the murky waters of the counter culture, and brought in a so-called expert, who we now hear is finally working pro-bono, after fleecing the anti-nuke movement for a Mercedes and fat steak!

Hope springs eternal, the anti-nuclear universe, and the world of high fashion are about to seamlessly come together... form the alliance of the Century. I won't spill the beans here, you'll have to follow the bouncing ball and the trail of bread crumbs. But anyone who has been paying attention knows where all the major players and trigger points are.

I for one started posting on the Paranoids Online blog the other night. It's the entire Paranoia magazine crew. They invited me, so I said yes. Few weeks ago I also started writing for the Greenloop blog, doing a series of interviews with green fashion royalty. And mark my words, I use these opportunities to spread my little seeds of "Nukuler" dissention everywhere I go.

So hang on to your hats, cause here we go again! Our Rock The Reactors girl is going to Greece, Spain, Italy, traveling the world spreading the anti-nuclear gospel... just cause she is, just cause she is.

Look For Security At Indian Point To Worsen

NRC, New York Government On Mental Vacation?

Security at Indian Point with a wink and nod is rumored to let the Mistresses of certain high ranking employees into the plant grounds, so it's not as if Security at the plant is anything to write home about...further, a study of security at the plant has lead GNB to believe it quite possible to successfully attack the plant, to take down the reactors without actually entering the physical grounds of Entergy's failing reactors on the Hudson (report coming soon to this blog)...meanwhile, as we begin to bring life back to Green Nuclear Butterfly, it seems that the State of New York is eliminating all budgeting for guard troops at Nuclear Plants in the state including Indian Point. Why not hang a Terrorist Welcome sign on the front gate at Indian Point's easily attacked, potentially destroyed plant? Talk about letting our guard down...Neil Sheehan must be pissing himself!

Newsday – (New York) National Guard troops pulled from nuclear plants. National Guard troops that have stood guard at four upstate New York nuclear power plants since shortly after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are being withdrawn this summer. A spokesman for the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs tells WSTM-TV in Syracuse that there was not any money included in the state budget for keeping the troops at nuclear plants near Oswego and Ginna. A spokeswoman for Constellation Energy, which operates the two nuclear plants at Nine Mile Point in Scriba, says it was notified that the troops will be withdrawn from there this summer. The Division of Military and Naval Affairs says about 100 troops are stationed at the four plants, and deployments at others in the state are under review. Go Green Expo honors Riverkeeper

The New York Hilton was packed with hundreds of eco-chic dignitaries last night, affording the $500 a plate dinner prepared by famed TV chef Rachael Ray during the Go Green Expo Gala to benefit Riverkeeper and the Amazon Conservation Association.

Treehugger founder Graham Hill, vice president of Interactive Media for Planet Green, accepted an excellence in Environmental Awareness award on behalf David Zazlav, president and CEO of Discovery Communications.

Discovery is owned by NBC Universal Cable, which is 80 percent owned by General Electric. On June 4th, the Discovery Home channel will become Planet Green, a 24/7 environmental channel, available to 50 millions homes.

And there lies the irony… How can we possibly trust Riverkeeper to lead the fight to shut down Indian Point, the old leaky nuclear power plant on the Hudson river, when Riverkeeper is sleeping with the enemy? According the Nation, 59 percent of Treehugger readers are so desperate about climate change, they approve of nuclear power.

During the fashion show of Maggie Norris’s wonderful new eco-elegance collection, American’s Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker introduced a dozen conservationists walking down the runway. They were dressed the part, for the African bush, or neoprene diving suit, a couple branding machetes!

Yet, when it was Phillip Musegaas’s turn down the catwalk, the lawyer for Riverkeeper working on the Indian Point issue, he didn’t make much of an effort to celebrate the occasion. Phillip walked down the runway in his street clothes, not even holding a briefcase to look the part. Maybe it was last minute.

The audience cheered as Nigel Barker read Riverkeeper was stopping the relicensing of Indian Point. Nothing could be further from the truth. The work Riverkeeper has done to date hasn’t even made a dent in Entergy’s relicensing plans, because Riverkeeper is compromising at every turn, hording all the resources, and constantly dropping the ball.

Riverkeeper is receiving funds from the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, which also contributes to Exelon’s educational programs along with Indian Point poster boy Paul Newman! How can you possibly reconcile the two?

Alex Matthiessen of Riverkeeper, beneficiary for the evening, accepted an award from Go Green Expo. He spoke at length about issues facing the Hudson river as guests dug in their plates, conversations drowning out his speech. Alex mentioned Indian Point again, which got another rise out of the audience.

New Yorkers want to see Indian Point shut down… it’s a ticking time bomb. All this wonderful green work won’t amount to a hill of beans if something goes wrong at the plant. Are all the incidents worth the measly 2000 Mw of electrical power which could easily be replaced with a state funded door to door LED light bulb replacement program? Why hasn’t Riverkeeper embraced LEDs as an alternative to Indian Point, when Mayor Bloomberg is installing LEDs all over New York!

LEDs have been Rock The Reactors’s strategy ever since the organization came into existence in April of 2006, when model Betcee May posed in front of Indian Point, becoming the most downloaded model with nuclear power plant workers. Betcee is currently featured in GQ magazine this month licking Iron Man’s face! So what is Riverkeeper waiting for? What bigger cue does Riverkeeper need to understand the role the New York fashion community needs to play in the shut down of Indian Point?

Riverkeeper and Discovery had both Graham Hill and famous green super model Summer Rayne Oakes sitting at their table. And yet, the true architects of this fashion campaign to shut down Indian Point, Rock The Reactors and Green Nuclear Butterfly were not invited to the party.

Could it be because GE is stopping Chinese LED bulbs from being unloaded at the docks, claiming patent infringement? Could it be because shutting down Indian Point could spell an immediate end to GE’s plans for an all-nuclear Navy, something Congressman John Hall voted in favor?

John Hall and I made a deal prior to his election. He shook on it with me in front of witnesses. I would help his campaign by bringing Fairfield County attention to Indian Point. We did this when the Green Party endorsed Diane Farrell’s congressional bid against Chris Shays, in exchange for Diane’s support shutting down Indian Point. John Hall in turn, agreed that the day we shut down Indian Point, Betcee May would pull the plug, in a Marilyn Monroe moment.

Facts and figures will not shut down Indian Point. The time for debate is over. Either you want to see Betcee flip the switch, or you don’t. That’s the campaign, that’s Rock The Reactors. LEDs are where we get the replacement power, which is what the governor promised! We probably already made up for it with conservation by now, had Spitzer started the countdown clock the day he stepped into office.

How did the New York Post, a newspaper which supports the relicensing of Indian Point, agree to a 28 page center pull-out section for Planet Green and Go Green Expo? This writer is baffled by the hypocrisy of the situation. What kinds of unholy alliance could possibly be going on, that would make for the Go Green Expo gala to both, advocate the shut down of Indian Point, while at the same time be in business with companies perpetuating its operation. This same evening, another receptacle of the Go Green award was no other than Con Edison CEO Kevin Burke!

The Go Green Expo has created awfully strange dynamics, by finally bringing the fight to shut down Indian Point to the New York fashion community, but at the same time, bring it to them in care of the same people who want to keep the plant open! How much were the people in that room really aware of the dangers that loom only 25 miles North up river, the tireless networking, the years put in by volunteers… all to no avail.

To the audience at the Go Green ceremony, Indian Point was but a tiny fraction of the proceedings. “Good issue” to quote Robert Kennedy Jr. who was not in attendance that evening. In the room, many people working both side of the fence, trying to have their cake and eat it to, wanting a green future for New York and its surrounding communities, while at the same time continue to live in the shadow of an environmental time bomb.

There is no compromise. You cannot promote a green life style, while at the same time stay idle, and do nothing, or make believe you are doing something, in regard to the presence of Indian Point on the Hudson.

Summer Rayne Oakes writes about the questionable sense for building new nuclear power plants on Treehugger, yet now she sits on the board of advisors of a GE owned company, Discovery's Planet Green. She has been all too silent about what should concern her most, the nuclear power plant 25 miles from where she lives.

How is raising money for Riverkeeper, which stole the grassroots from Rock The Reactors and Green Nuclear Butterfly, helping all those who did the heavy lifting with barely enough resources to get by. Does the Hudson river belongs to the Rockefellers, the Hearsts, and the Kennedys? They feel Indian Point is their business, and win or lose, they don’t appreciate outsiders coming in telling them what to do or what to think.

Riverkeeper is the caretaker of the river. So as long as Alex at Riverkeeper keeps telling the public they’re trying to shut down Indian Point, we have it all under control, we’ll take care of it… nothing happens, and the plant will get its brand new license, go on operating for another 20 years, maybe 40 years, spewing radioactive waste in the air, the ground water… or God forbid, something worse.

It’s hard to celebrate the greening of New York at a Go Green Expo knowing it’s making deals with companies on both sides of this issue, giving awards to environmentalists working for good companies owned by bad companies… what possible future can these strange bedfellows bring, other than the self-perpetuating error of our ways, which has resulted in the near collapse of our biosphere.

Sure organic cotton and natural cosmetics are all the rage on 7th avenue. I should know, I helped bring it all about. But it’s not enough, that’s just fashion… fashion can save the world, if you let it. That’s what GE is terrified of, a world where emotion and doing the right thing threatens their bottom line. A world where an environmental nightclub, home away from home for Earth First! can give birth to an Eco-Saloon which in turn gives birth to Green Order, which developed the GE Ecomagination campaign.

In a few days, Planet Green launches, benefiting from the work of so many who have wished for such a channel on TV. There have been dozens of failed attempts over the years to bring a 24/7 environmental network into existence, millions squandered. The powers that be did not want it. Yet now, the powers that be seem to have embraced the green message, rich or poor we breathe the same air.

How can we possibly entrust those families who for over a century have caused and perpetuated environmental devastation only now to make entertainment out of it? How can we possibly entrust Planet Green to General Electric, when so much of their profits come from the sale of nuclear technology?

I wonder if Summer Rayne Oakes, Graham Hill, and all the good folks at Treehugger, think about this… ponder it… wonder how they are possibly going to be able to grow the message, grow the green revolution, while cradled in the hands of the nuclear dragon.

There might be a key to all this, and it might be traveling around in a green bio-diesel eco-salon spa bus on the streets of Los Angeles… a feature story about the Earth Liberation Front… ELLE magazine getting punked… and a little farm called Camp Hill, a few miles down wind from Indian Point.

To quote Annie Wilson, energy committee chair of the Sierra Club’s Atlantic chapter: “You can’t shut down Indian Point without shutting down the entire nuclear power industry. They have it rigged that way.”

Indian Point Radiation Contributed to Or Caused My Wife's Cancer

Sure the Pro-Industry folks wish I would simply go away...hard to do when you live three miles from a problem plagued dangerous nuclear reactor wrongfully trying to get itself relicensed for another 20 years of operation...even harder to do when you find out your wife has breast cancer and you are convinced that Entergy's poor management, and Indian Point's leaking reactors play a crucial role in that cancer, and in the cancer of two of our cats. Carrying on the fight I was meant to be involved in, have recently filed more Petitions with the NRC...for those battling Entergy in the License Renewal Case, you might find the NRC's most recent response to that Petition interesting.

Mr. Martinelli,

The NRR Petition Review Board (PRB) has reviewed your 10CFR2.206
petition dated March 30, 2008, which requests enforcement action against
Indian Point 2 and 3. Your petition requests that the NRC suspend the
units operating licenses. You also requested that the NRC halt the
license renewal process.

You provided some supporting facts and known issues in your petition.

The PRB proposes to reject, due to insufficient facts, the basis in
paragraphs 1 and 2 as a basis for plant license suspension as the PRB
has no evidence that the current releases from the plant exceed the
NRC's regulatory limits. It is noted here, that though a release may

be within LEGAL LIMITS, it might not be low enough to protect human

health and the environment...the NRC is charged with protecting our

health first and foremost, and if that means ceasing operations because

NOW ADMITTED RELEASES are causing cancers, human health is at

risk, then the NRC must do its job, and suspend operations at the plant

until such time as the LEAKS into air, water and ground at stopped.

For paragraphs 3 and 4, the PRB is not aware of any hot leg leaks at
the facility (even if there were, there is no path to the groundwater).
The PRB is also not aware of any leaks in violation of the NRC's
regulations. This is a lie...the TRITIUM LEAKS are not within the

the constraints of the license, and the ongoing two year investigation

is proof of this reality. However, there are underground plumes containing
radioactive isotopes which have reached the Hudson River. The Press, The public

and attorneys need to TAKE NOTICE of this admission...we have the NRC admitting

in this email to me that radioactive leaks from the plant are reaching the Hudson River

The PRBproposes to combine this aspect of your petition with your previous
petition dated June 25, 2007, on groundwater contamination, which the
NRC accepted for review by letter dated February 1, 2008. A proposed
Director's Decision is being prepared for this petition, and is expected
to be issued by May 30, 2008.

For paragraph 5, the PRB acknowledges that Entergy is in violation of
two NRC orders on the new siren system, and the new siren system is
still not in operation. With my wife now in a high risk group, a non-working

siren in the case of a release puts her at HIGH RISK of additional exposure

further elevating her cancer risk...yet the NRC refuses to take the needed

action of CLOSING THE PLANT till the sirens are working. Why?

The PRB proposes to combine this aspect of your
petition with your previous petition dated September 28, 2007, on the
new siren system, which the NRC accepted for review by letter dated
February 12, 2008. A proposed Director's Decision is being prepared for
this petition. Due to the complexities involved with this proposed
Director's Decision, it is not expected to be issued until October
2008.

You also requested that the NRC halt the license renewal process for
Indian Point 2 and 3. Because this request is not for an
enforcement-related action, it does not meet the criteria for acceptance
in the 10 CFR 2.206 process. My request is an enforcement-related action.

The board has the right to take action on ANY LICENSE or License procedure

because of rules violations, and that would include stopping the license renewal activity

until such time as Entergy is within FULL COMPLIANCE.

You may discuss your petition with the PRB if you desire to comment on
the PRB's recommendations or present additional information. This may be
in a public meeting at NRC headquarters in Rockville, MD, or by
teleconference. If it is by teleconference, it will be recorded,
transcribed, and added to the public record. Please let me know by April
22, 2008, if you want a discussion with the PRB, and I will arrange a
mutually agreeable date. The licensee will be invited to participate.

Your petition has not been made public yet, but I am in the process of

The Great Florida Power Outage of 2008-Grid Failure, or Nuclear Reactor Malfunction?

Details are streaming in about the massive power outage that is disrupting the lives of over 4.4 million Floridians as they try to go about their daily lives. We know so far that the outage affects a wide swath of Florida from Jacksonville to Miami, and going North up to Tampa on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

Reports dribbling out to the mainstream media have eight power plants off grid for some period of time, including three nuclear reactors at Florida Power and Light’s Turkey Point facility that has had numerous problems in the past.

The Great Florida Power Outage struck just after 1 p.m., as scattered thunderstorms passed through the region, thus bringing Florida to a halt, stranding travelers, and creating traffic problems at major intersections. So are, officials and power plant spokespeople are being mum about the cause of the outage.

The Department of Homeland Security, always wanting to justify their existence was quick to issue a statement assuring the public there was no immediate concern that terrorism was behind the outage.

Stan Johnson, of the North American Electric Reliability Council, verified to the press that eight power plants were off-line across the region. Officials are claiming the outage has been contained, but only time will verify that optimistic belief.

In late breaking news, there is a discrepancy on how many people are affected…a spokesperson for FPL is now claiming that only 600,000-800,000 people were actually without power, but then she qualified that by stating in their customer service area. Further, there is now news flowing in that the Great Florida GRID CRASH was caused by a seriously safety or operational problem at the Turkey Point Reactors that caused a SCRAM, which is a EMERGENCY SHUT DOWN of the reactors to halt a serious of chain events that could have lead to a melt down of the reactors.

STop License Renewal-Back Door Actions. File Your Own 2.206 Petition Today

Let us not kid ourselves...we have Entergy and the NRC on the ropes, and have our best shot ever of stoping a License Renewal Application for Indian Point. We now need citizens to join in the fight by taking a SIMPLE FREE ACTION....post this entry all over the web, if you live within 50 miles of Indian Point, file your own 2.206 Petition against Entergy's failing Indian Point, and their NON WORKING SIRENS!

Many of you may not be aware of the fact, that FUSE USA and myself had filed a 2.206 Petition on this very issue, and that the NRC held a hearing via phone with FUSE USA (with Sherwood Martinelli acting as spokesperson) on December 21st, 2007. Just guessing here, that a part of this proposed fine is an off shoot of our/my successful Petition...a petition by the way that we are now working on amending based on the latest information about corrosion of said alarm system. What we are trying to ascertain, was A) did our petition push the NRC to levying this fine and the amount of it, and B) since the commission has promised enforcement action as relates to our petition within 120 days (from February 4th) can we actually expect ADDITIONAL FINES on the siren issue?

Fact...the sirens are our communities FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE. If there is a significant incident or terrorist attack at Indian Point, the sirens defacto are our only line of defense.

If thousands of citizens in Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, and Orange county were to swamp the NRC with their own email 2.206 Petitions on said sirens, demanding that Indian Point be shutdown until the sirens are up and functioning, I believe we could actually be successful in forcing at least a temporary shut down of the facility, thus costing Entergy $3 million a day...that would be an adequate fine for not having properly functioning and maintained sirens from our perspective.

To file your own 2.206 petition is actually very simple. You state in a letter to the Secretary of the NRC that you are filing a 2.206 Petition seeking IMMEDIATE enforcement action. You explain how you are being negatively impacted by the new siren system not being up and running properly, you point out Entergy's numerous failures to abide by previous NRC orders on this issue, and then you ask the secretary to shut down the plant and suspend Entergy's license to operate until the sirens ARE IN FULL COMPLIANCE. That is it....you then email it to: SECY@nrc.gov FACT...if we as a community SWAMP the NRC's staff every time there is a new problem or leak at Indian Point, if every time Entergy turns around the NRC is receiving THOUSANDS OF EMAIL COMPLAINTS via 2.206 petitions, we can seriously impact the thought process going on related to the license renewal of Indian Point.

FACT-every leak, every sleeping guard, every failed siren is a LEGITIMATE REASON to swamp the NRC with more 2.206 Petitions. We have 21 Million people living within 50 miles of Indian Point...imagine the bottle neck if suddenly everytime there is a violation at Indian Point, just one percent of us (210,000) sent off an email 2.206 Petition to the secretary's office! Go listen to Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant, and you will realize just how easily we could have ourselves A MOVEMENT!

Trust me, if over the next few weeks hundreds if not thousands of you would take the time to write out a simple 2.206 Petition letter and email it into the NRC, Entergy will have some serious problems, as rightfully they should have. If you get your friends and neighbors to do the same, the NRC is going to be forced to take a long and serious look at Entergy's License Renewal Application, and ask themselves if relicensing the facility for 20 more years of operation is WORTH THE TROUBLE.

AS a closing note, we also had a 2.206 Petition on Entergy's leaks, and are expecting enforcement action on that as well since there was a hearing on those issues as well on December 21.

Nuclear Navy Hides Mishaps...NO KIDDING

I just love it when people send articles our way that back up allegations we have made previously here on GNB...The head of the NEI loves spreading the lie as a former Admiral in the nuclear navy that the United States Nuclear Navy has never had a nuclear vessel accident...I'll call the man (Skip Bowman) a freaking liar right to his face. Despite the Navy's best attempts at keeping their nuclear mishaps out of the public arena, there have been accidents, and some fairly significant ones at that. Anyway, one of our news hounds sent the below article to us, and we thought we would share it with you.

United States Navy has had nuclear incidents

I wish to take issue with Rep. Gene Taylor's assertion that the United States Navy has, in the words of The Mississippi Press' Jan. 18 editorial, "been using nuclear power for decades without incident." In making this statement, both Rep. Taylor and The Mississippi Press are in error. The actual list of "incidents" includes:

1. In 1961, the USS Theodore Roosevelt was contaminated when radioactive waste from its demineralization system blew back onto the ship after an attempt to dispose of the material at sea.

2. On Dec. 12, 1971, approximately 500 gallons of radioactive coolant water was spilled into the Thames River near New London, Conn., during a transfer from the submarine USS Dace to the submarine tender USS Fulton.

3. In 1975, the nuclear-powered submarine USS Guardfish was contaminated with radioactive waste from its reactor coolant water system during disposal at sea.

4. Sometime during October to November of 1975, the submarine tender USS Proteus discharged radioactive coolant water into Apra Harbor, Guam, contaminating two of the harbor's public beaches with radiation 50 times the allowable dose.

5. On May 22, 1978, the nuclear-powered submarine USS Puffer mistakenly released up to 500 gallons of radioactive water near Puget Sound, Washington.

This list does not include the losses of the nuclear-powered submarines USS Thresher and USS Scorpion. While their losses were unrelated to nuclear propulsion, their reactors are still sitting on the ocean floor, making it a matter of time before radioactive material is released. This list also doesn't include accidents involving nuclear weapons or incidents at shore-based facilities.

Finally, Rep. Taylor's assertion does not take into account the U. S. Navy's policy of not releasing information on incidents involving nuclear power. For example, OPNAVINST 3040.5B instructs naval commanders they "may not need to contact all the relevant authorities" if an incident occurs in a foreign port. This is in direct contradiction to the U. S. government's "Standard statement on the operation of U.S. nuclear powered warships in foreign ports" which states, "the appropriate authorities of the host government will be notified immediately in the event of an accident involving the reactor of the warship, during a port visit." In other words, knowledge of any "incidents" may not be in the public domain.

It is true that the U. S. Navy has operated nuclear-powered vessels for over 50 years (beginning with the USS Nautilus in 1954) without a reactor meltdown or a catastrophic release of radioactive material. This is due in large part to the design of their reactors and the rigorous training of their personnel. It is also a wise strategy to legislate the next generation of surface combatants be nuclear-powered to reduce our navy's vulnerability to disruptions in the oil supply. But it is misleading at best to declare U.S. naval operations involving nuclear power have been without incident.

Rep. Taylor should know better than to make such a statement and The Mississippi Press should know better than to repeat it without verification.

NRC's Allegation's Division, "The Ignorant Fuck's Club" IFC

I know, I have no manners, am raw and confrontational...after all, who am I to call the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board a bunch of pro-nuclear industry pricks...truthsayer pops quickly to mind, but obviously, some will disagree. Well, lets just add insult to injury, and let the NRC's Secretary and full commission known that their folks handling allegations seem to be a bunch of ignorant fucks that need to take their heads out of their asses and see the forest from the trees.

OH MY GOD, what is Sherwood prattling on about now you might ask? Allegation NSIR-2007-A-0013 (RI-2007-A-0134)

Over the course of this past year, I have enlightened the NRC about certain PROBLEMS within the industry, and at Entergy's FAILING Indian Point facility...such as, and as example the reactor vessel integrity test that Entergy figured out a way to cheat on. Another thing I brought to the attention of the NRC was the fact that EPRI's cache of documents that are supposed to be well guarded are not. Granted, I disagree with documents paid for in part by our taxes being kept from us, but that being said, still feel that certain documents should not be as readily accessible to the public as pornography is, but such is the case with literally 1,000's of EPRI documents, and the NRC seems bent on ignoring this reality, or too stupid to do a proper investigation.

The NRC on December 13th sent me off a letter basically dismissing a bunch of my allegations due to lack of evidence...more appropriately, they dismissed them because they are A) lazy, B) stupid, or C) covering up known industry mistakes, or D) a combination of all of the above. In their letter, they explained to me that they had taken a look at EPRI's PUBLIC WEBSITE, and come to the determination that there was nothing there of any interest, nothing there that citizens (or terrorists from other countries) should not be allowed to see...never mind that their visit to the public sight completely MISSED what my complaint was about.

Resisting the urge to simply call the investigators a bunch of anal retentive MORONS, on December 27th, 2007 I gave the NRC a courtesy call, letting them know they had missed the boat, were wrong in their conclusions, and again stated to them that their were large caches of EPRI documents that anyone with a brain (which leaves most NRC employees out of the loop apparently)could easily locate and download from the internet. I even gave them a thumbnail view of how it could be done, and suggested that they revisit their conclusion.

Well, today I got a letter back from one Gregory C. Cwalina, Senior Allegation Cordinator, in which he again gets it ALL WRONG, but not surprisingly DEFENDS the NRC investigators findings, stating again that they visited EPRI's PUBLIC SIGHT, and found nothing amiss. So, I will now tell Gregory C Cwalina, the entire Allegation department, and the NRC itself...you folks are a bunch of MORONS. You do not NEED a password to access private sections of the EPRI site, DO NOT NEED a PASSWORD to go in and download sensitive documents that are clearly marked they should not be made available for export, and you do not need to go through the EPRI normal access portals and protocols to look at, see, view and download said documents, and any averagely intelligent person with any creativity, and the ability to conduct a GOOGLE search can find and read these documents.

Stolen Concert HUGE SUCCESS? Back Patting Beginning

So, two days after the Ani DiFranco/Pete Seeger Concert in Nyack, the artificial back patting and congratulations have begun as everyone sings the praises of Susan Shapiro and Maureen Ritter, while desparately trying to avoid the real subject of the moment...is it true that Susan Shapiro STOLE a FUSE USA fund raising event? Even more disturbing, was the plan all along to use Sherwood Martinelli's talents then throw him overboard because of his politically inappropriate and untimely attacks on politicians like Susan Shapiro's Congressman John Hall?

First, the concert...SOME BASIC FACTS:

1. The concert in Nyack was to have been a FUSE USA fund raising event. In fact and deed, Ulrich Witte himself has to admit to the truth of this. He banked his decision to come to work for FUSE USA on our ability to bring this fund raising event home as it were.

2. Both Pete Seeger and Ani DiFranco were committed to the event LONG BEFORE SUSAN SHAPIRO left FUSE USA.

3. Hate to BURST SUSAN's bubble, but if you were to do the honorable thing, you would admit to everyone that Remy actually suggested Ani quite some time ago to you...to be specific, he first brought her to your attention the day we had our meeting with the NRC, and you commended him on such a good idea. Now, granted, there were only three people in on the parking lot conversation as Susan Shapiro knows, but two of them are both in agreement on the facts, and I have no real reason to support Remy's contentions on this issue, so the readers can draw their own conclusions.

In short, no matter how Susan Shapiro, Maureen Ritter and Michel Lee might like to portray events that occured between October 15th and November 7th when they all resigned from the board of FUSE USA, one thing is certain. Friday nights concert was, and may still be (legally in a court of law) a FUSE USA fund raising benefit, but there is a real good chance that issue will be decided by attorneys, or perhaps by judges and/or a jury at some future date and time. For now, we merely point out, that the event was arranged as a FUSE USA event, and in fact and deed, Ulrich Witte, unless he is willing to perjure himself, knows that Susan Shapiro confirmed to both he and I via emial that Ani DiFranco had agreed to perform for the FUSE USA fund raiser. In fact, he told me personally on the phone the day we got the news, that his fiancee (former?) was a HUGE FAN of her's, and would probably buy 15 tickets herself for the event.

Was it the intention all along for Sherwood Martinelli's talents to be harvested to benefit the Close Indian Point movement, then cast him aside as being to controversial. Was Susan Shapiro being cagey from the onset with Sherwood, was the fund raising event designed from the onset in such a fashion that she could steal away when she and the rest of her crew BOLTED FUSE USA? If not, how was it then that she was able to move everything so quickly into her name, and basically CUT FUSE USA out of the process? As the old saying goes, enquiring minds want to know. This subject, where Sherwood Martinelli stood in the process while he dedicated thousands of hours of his time to the movement is worthy of a LONG ARTICLE that is being written, and will soon be published on this blog...here is one thing to peak your interest.

It is suggested here, that News Reporters ask both Congressman John Hall and Susan Shapiro about the private deal that was made to get Sherwood Martinelli to dismantle his Congressman John Hall Blog, to delete it from the internet. I'll remind both Susan Shapiro, and Congressman John Hall right now, that said removal of my blog was done based upon a promise...a promise that right now is not being kept, a promise made by both Susan Shapiro, and Congressman John Hall himself.

The Remy Susan Wars, Part Two-The Stolen Concert

So, tomorrow night is the BIG Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco Anti Indian Point Concert in Nyack NY that Susan Shapiro is TAKING ALL THE CREDIT FOR....well, as the old saying goes, hold the phone, we have LATE BREAKING NEWS on this whole STOLEN CONCERT STORY, and Susan's claim that she deserves all the credit, as well as proof that tends to support Remy Chevalier's claim that Susan Shapiro STOLE this significant fund raising event from FUSE USA when on November 7th she tenured her resignation as the organization's president. As a first hand observer of the events, I know for a fact that Friday night's concert was supposed to be, and had been planned as a FUSE USA fund raiser...further more, I know for a fact that Ani DiFranco made a commitment to do this show for FUSE USA while Susan Shapiro was president of FUSE USA....so, this raises a serious question...who is LEGALLY ENTITLED to the funds from Friday nights big Anti Indian Point concert? Some legal experts might weigh all the evidence and say FUSE USA, a still very viable organization is the rightful recipient of these funds...one thing is for sure...Ani DiFranco and Pete Seeger should sit down with all parties before ANY OF THE PROCEEDS are distributed, and make sure that all these issues are resolved before the monies are doled out:

The Paramount can no longer say no to John Hall... he's their Congressman!

They're opposing the $50 billion tax loan guarantee... but don't worry, we have bridges, like Summer Rayne Oakes... again, I know Bonnie's manager... Jackson Brown is a friend of Nicole Landers, who I did a party with in LA a few months ago... they will be made to pick Indian Point as a central focus of the anti-nuclear effort, by virtue of ground work already done by Rock The Reactors and Green Nuclear Butterfly since April 2006.

This is about connections and coalition building... they may not have time to directly focus on Indian Point, but what we will do will automatically bring the public's attention to focus on IP as their number one target...

Ani would be great...

Contact Phineas and the Lonely Leaves... ask them to play... they are friends of the folks at the Bruised Apple bookstore... they are an amazing new band... grew up in Peekskill...

Another is Slambovian Circus of Dreams, big cult following in this area... grew up in Sleepy Hollow... they helped Rock The Reactors in 2006... If we have a space, and a date, we can invite a lot of performers... there's Stacy Fine who promoted the gig in Woodstock... she's married to the editor of High Times, knows the folks at Paper magazine... knows a lot of musicians... ALL the folks down at the Camp Hill Farm are professional musicians... with some very illustrious associations...

If we get Peter Shapiro on board to help, now with Peter Alexander, and Ken Hays of Gathering of the Vibes... there's going to start a buzz about what we want to do... people will come forward... we just need to stirr the pot... impress on people, a win against Indian Point, will open up the door for a flood of renewable opportunities... a tipping point...

Susan, since Monday, WE have become the anti-nuclear movement, by simple virtue of Wetlands...They will come to us for answers now, because we suddenly got the NRC on the ropes... Nobody has done this before... we're showing them how it's done...

Realize the action Sherwood and I did on the Paramount a few months ago, putting Indian Point information in the hands of all the Bob Weir fans, made a major dent... we just don't experience the results of these things until a little later, delayed reaction... because it's about viral tactics, not front page news, but slow, progressive cultural shifts... it's hard to explain, just watch it happen.

Don't count on the Paramount they get lots of funding from Entergy. We have Riverspace booked for January 19 with Pete Seeger. we need more musicans to play then.

I had a long talk with Tom CAmpbell today, who basiscally says that the regular suspects Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt ,etc are busy setting up a new anti nuke movement and probalbky won't have time for us. (unless of course we can access them directly). Apparently the national issue is there is a bill in front of congress right now to give endless taxpayer funds to nukes and that;s what they are waging a war on.

I tried to express that our battle could help shut them down, but he seemed to think they were already committed in another direction. He has been trying to get Ani DiFranco to committ but no luck yet.

At this point anyone we can get to play with Pete in Nyack in January 18 or 19 would be great for a start. I am seeing Pete this weekend and will ask him to sign a letter asking other musicans to help out.

The Remy Susan Wars-Wrong On Both Parts

Even when I try to take a vacation, get away, recharge my battery, I find myself being dragged into the fray even deeper. I returned from a Bridge Tournament...yes, I play bridge, to find that all hell had broken out in our local Anti-Nuclear community, with people being asked to pick sides in the fight. It all would probably be a NON ISSUE, a private matter between two private parties if at the heart of it all were not both a young and old music legend in Ani Difranco and Pete Seeger, who are doing a music benefit this Friday night to benefit (supposedly) local efforts to shut down Indian Point.

Susan Shapiro, former President of FUSE USA it seems has marched into a local court (using her families political contacts, and daddies money?) seeking an order of protection against eccentric local green guru Remy Chevalier that would require him to stay at least 500 feet away from Susan Shapiro at all times. Despite her protestations, from my own perspective, Susan Shapiro is over reaching, and I have heard her privately say far more demeaning things about Remy Chevalier than he has said about her, including his Christmas Season email greeting (which I have not seen).

Let's face it, when we are pissed off, we tend to say some things, use some words that we might later regret...or not. For instance, I did in fact and deed call the three judge panel in the Indian Point License Renewal case a bunch of pro-nuclear industry pricks, and stand by my ascertion. I know in his email diatribe, that Remy used the b word...curious here, when and if this whole matter goes to court, will Mr. Chevalier get a chance to submit evidence to support his contention, and if so what is the level of proof required to have someone legally deemed a bitch? Further, has Ms. Shapiro given any consideration to this, given due diligence to the repercussions of having a jury agree with Remy Chevalier that she is a bitch? Not saying he could meet the burden of proof for such a declaration, but WHAT IF HE CAN? Would he then be legally entitled to advertise the fact that a court of law, a jury of his peers agrees with his published ascertion that Susan Shapiro is a bitch? Does any one really care?

I wonder if the judge is going to bother looking into all the under lying issues...for that matter, has Pete Seeger or Ani DiFranco or their handlers bothered to look into the issues surrounding this latest court case or Remy's claim that Susan Shapiro stole a benefit that rightfully belongs to FUSE USA? I know they have not bothered to speak with all sides to understand the truth, as none of Ani DiFranco's people have reached out to me on the matter. What exactly has Remy Chevalier so upset with Susan Shapiro? Is there some substance to his claim that Susan Shapiro STOLE THE Ani DiFranco/Pete Seeger Event away from FUSE USA, and thus by proxy away from Remy Chevalier.

Perhaps the judge should ask Susan Shapiro to produce into evidence a late September/early October email that was sent to both I, and Ulrich Witte wherein Susan Shapiro makes it official that we (we being FUSE USA) have Ani DiFranco committed to a concert to benefit FUSE USA, but that she does not want us making the information public until all the contracts are signed. WHOOPS, is that an inconvenient truth I just let slip out of the bag? Maybe I am expecting to much here, but where are Pete Seeger and Ani DiFranco in resolving this dispute, and setting the parties down, and doing what is right, upholding their promises as originally made? Remy is absolutely correct when he states that the Ani DiFranco concert was a FUSE USA event! I do have the email to prove that contention.

Perhaps the judge should take a close look at how Susan is more than likely justifying now owning that event, and the supposedly legal board votes that were taken on November 7th, 2007 wherein Michele Lee, Susan Shapiro and Maureen Ritter gave themselves full right and ownership of ALL FUSE USA property, then immediately resigned from the board after wiping out all the funds in the FUSE USA checking account. Again I am curious to know if Pete Seeger or Ani DiFranco have bothered to look into THESE FACTS? Why haven't they asked the very obvious question...where is FUSE USA, or is that something that was also disposed of behind closed doors? If it was disposed of behind closed doors, are these two music legends awared of all the fingerprints left behind to prove the facts I am alleging here?

Susan Shapiro is an attorney...she represented FUSE USA on its board, but also as its attorney of record before the NRC, and in other legal matters. Is the judge going to look at the fact that some two months later, Susan Shapiro has NOT returned to FUSE USA the entire NRC legal file and all under lying documents?

Seems to me, that if Remy Chevalier is going to be dragged before a court for losing his temper and saying some stupid, ill advised things in an email, then so too should the judge take a serious look at Susan Shapiro, and all the events that led up to that email...after all, it should be important to serving justice to put that email in its proper perspective.

Green Nuclear Butterfly On Leave, Or Permanent Vacation

Greetings Readers:

Sure many of you are wondering what is going on here at the Green Nuclear Butterfly, or maybe a better question has been, "Why isn't anything going on?"

The easy answer would be to honestly state, that it does not matter. A year of sacrifice, a year of hitting our heads up against a brick wall, and reality is what reality is. Big business, and a corrupt Nuclear Regulatory Commission are going to do what they want to do, and until that next BIG ACCIDENT occurs somewhere in the world (and it well), people like myself are seen as the proverbial Chicken Little's screaming about the sky falling down. Everyone knows that
Global Warming is real, but for right now, selfish people who are unwilling to make personal sacrifices see nuclear as the GREAT PLACEBO, our savior. We can still listen to our IPod's, text message, and keep our cell phones glued to our ears while microwaving hot pockets, as nuclear reactors will give us all the energy we want while causing NO HARM to the environment.

We told the NRC about the cracks in the Dry Cask Storage Pad over at Indian Point, but our warnings fell on DEAF EARS, as is witnessed by the first casks being filled with spent fuel rods being moved onto it in this past week. Those casks are only good for 20 years, but not to worry, as the NRC will relicense them for another 20 more, and then your childrens grand children can figure out the mess after we are all long dead and gone...it's the AMERICAN WAY, and the three bias blind stupid fucking pricks on the Hearing Board are not going to hear the voice of the average stakeholders, because they are doing everything they can to simply get rid of us and our filings on technicalities, or because they don't like the way we percieve them.

It's odd...this past year if nothing else been a great learning experience for me, I have found a whole new insight into why desparate peoples grow frustrated with a beaucracy so run amuck that they resort to desparate acts to be heard. Our fouled and sour democracy, a set of archaic rules that have stolen our voices, and made it impossible for us to have a seat at the table, leave us little choice but to either A) walk away, or B) take bold steps to be heard at all costs, and even if you take those steps, be honest...your voice will not be heard, but your actions will buy you about 15 seconds of fame on the CNN/FOX 24 hour news cycle if your lucky.

For now, Green Nuclear Butterfly shall sit stagnant as options and life are explored. Keep checking back over the next few weeks, as we will either dismantle the entire blog, as if it were never here, or will give it a new life, a new look, and a new direction. We will always be anti-nuclear, that will not change. What will, or perhaps has changed, is us...it is sad, but you cannot change certain things in life, cannot stop a society from making a horrendous error....all you can do is shake your head in sadness, and hope you've left the world long before the "I told you so's" begin.

Don't despair...we'll still find ways to be a serious thorn in Entergy's side. Our voice will still be heard, our articles popping up just when the industry thinks we are dead and gone. Who knows, we might even surprise everyone, and find a way yet to bring people together in some great march, find a way to stage a huge sit in or concert on the grounds of Indian Point. For now though, we wish everyone happy travels, and for everyone's sake, we pray that our predictions of a TRAGIC accident at Indian Point within the next ten years is wrong.

A few thoughts before we turn out the lights.........

1. CNN, you did a disservice to America in not telling the FULL TRUTH when you aired the Sleeping Guards video this past week. Any rookie assed high school newspapaper reporter could have easily found out that it was NOT AN ISOLATED CASE at one reactor facility. But you found a way to paint it out that way...you folks should be ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.

2. All the locals praying for a miracle while keeping their noses buried up the ass of Hilary Clinton, Chuck Shumer, Maurice Hinchey, Nita Lowey and your dearly beloved John Hall. WAKE UP FOLKS, they have all SOLD YOU DOWN THE RIVER, are mouthing one message while sucking on the teat of nuclear generosity behind closed doors...do your homework, and you'll find we are right....FOLLOW THE MONEY as the old saying goes.

3. For all the spouses of Entergy Workers....is your spouse really working? We have reason to believe that certain members of the Indian Point Security Staff are letting certain employees sneak their girlfriends/lovers onto the facility. After all, what a GREAT EXCUSE when you want to have an affair...sweetie, I am needed over at the reactor. Maybe you should pay closer attention to that supposed overtime.

4. To the citizens...Living close to a reactor does expose you to some serious health risks, but if you choose to ignore them, that is your choice. Before you walk away, before you decide a MASS PROTEST is beneath you, ask yourself if you have a loved one, friend, relative who has cancer, or do you know a child that was born with a birth defect. Yeah, CHEAP ENERGY...at what cost? Maybe it is time you took the time as people to pull your heads out of your collective asses, and got involved....Indian Point will be close when one of two things happen. A) a tragic accident, and it will occur. B) the citizens wake up, get organized, and march to shut the facility down....don't kid yourself, it would not take very many weekends with tens of thousands of citizens converging on Indian Point to see it shut down. The next time one of your friends or relatives, maybe your wife, mother or daughter is diagnosed with breast cancer you'll wish you had stood up, wished you had made your voice heard.

5. For the NRC. Indian Point/Entergy CHEATED on their reactor leak test. Also, they have BORIC ACID ISSUES...can we say David Besse? You've been told about this, but are too fucking cocky to do your homework, and at this point in time, I am sick and tired of doing it for you. There are other things you should know about, maybe even you do know about them, but choose to ignore them....quite frankly (as Scarlett would say), " I Don't give a damn." You as a regulatory agency have been derelect in your duties for far too long, and your day of reckoning is fast approaching, as it is only a matter of time till there is a MAJOR ACCIDENT at one of America's aging reactors, or a international terrorist group figures out a way to do what your agency says cannot be done.
