Marilyn Elie of IPSEC Worried About FUSE USA Fallout?

From the little bird department...it seems that Marilyn Elie is worried about the possible negative fall out surrounding the departure of Susan Shapiro from the FUSE USA board of directors. Apparently, she feels Sherwood (that would be me) has opened up another battle front by going so PUBLIC about the FUSE USA break-up. She is worried about what might happen when Entergy gets hold of this information.

For starters, Marilyn Elie can quit worrying, as Entergy already knows, which is verified in Entergy's Thanksgiving Eve Motion To Strike wherein they note the resignation from FUSE USA of Susan Shapiro. First, lets look at the meat of the motion:

As discussed below, FUSE has repeatedly flouted the Commission's Rules of Practice as well as explicit directions by the presiding Atomic Safety and Licensing Board regarding, among other things, service of its Petitions.

Hysterical accusation coming from a company with as many EXEMPTIONS from the rules as Entergy has. Now, FUSE USA obviously disagrees with Entergy's assessments of the situation, but moving on, let us see what these attorneys have to say about Susan Shapiro:

OUCH...talk about a sucker punch from her own colleagues! FUSE USA is in the process of correcting these issues, and will be providing adequate service to Entergy as relates to our "Non-Susan Shapiro" Petition filed in November. It is noted here in defense of Susan Shapiro, that the Federal Registry Notice is at best cloudy on the issue of "Service" stating that Petitions should provide Entergy with a copy of their filings.

As to Marilyn Elie's advice that I should remain mute should a news reporter call for a comment, she can rest assured that FUSE USA just today spoke with a reporter, though not directly related to her areas of concern. Marilyn apparently wants it to appear, that everyone is on the same game page when it comes to shutting down Indian Point.

Now, what I find amazing, is Marilyn's announcement on the IPSEC list about a slew of filings they are intending on filing with the NRC this week. Considering her private email to me last month wherein she stated IPSEC would not be filing any contentions, curious where this major change came from, and how they are planning to hit the ground running now on be a player in this game? Could it be, that they are taking FUSE USA work product, the work product of Sherwood Martinelli, and redrafting it as their own? If so, do they plan on giving CREDIT WHERE CREDIT is due? Have they obtained a release of any kind from FUSE USA for work product created by FUSE USA in preparing their contentions? Inquiring Minds want to know.

Susan Shapiro Strategy for Shutting Down Indian Point?

This past Monday, PHASE held a news conference in New York that got ambushed by Entergy and their PR people. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is one propaganda video worth to Entergy? You be the judge...does the shut down Indian Point movement look good in this video found on a Norris McDonald blog?

PHASE, Alec Baldwin Hold Pro Entergy Press Conference?

Talk about the anti-nuclear movement taking a HUGE BLACK EYE. Today's press conference in New York with Alec Baldwin was it...at least, that is the way it appeared on the coverage seen on NBC's New York Nightly News with Chuck Scarborough this evening on Channel 4.

Lead off hitter was Alec Baldwin, with Susan Shapiro, as always lurking just behind him with her ever present scowl. The first words out of his mouth were, "I'm not necessarily against Nuclear Energy"!

Holly CRAP Batman!

That ranks right up there with Maurice Hinchey, Nita Lowey and anti-nuclear musician now Congressman John Hall voting in favor of a all Nuclear Navy. PHASE should have maybe discussed Alex's message with him before he went to the microphone? This movement, supposedly PHASE as an organization is about shutting down dangerous nuclear reactors, not giving a back handed quasi endorsement to the Nuclear Industry that maybe SOME PLANTS could be safe.

Next up, was Joe Mangano who got a decent single up the middle speaking to a very sparse crowd...basically, NBC did not give him much coverage, and did a poor close up of a document assumed to be his work for about five seconds. It is a pity as his work is very important, and deserved far better.

From here on out things went rapidly down hill, as the press conference, and who was allowed to seize control of it should have been much better handled...IE, who let Jim Steets in? Talk about sandbagging the opposition, Susan Shapiro left herself, and thus the anti-nuclear movement wide open for attack today.

There is Joe Mangano speaking, then fad to a picture of the Indian Point reactors, and then, BAM, Susan Shapiro with her mouth gaping in shock is seen standing off to the back and side as she lets Entergy Villain Jim Steets take over and steal the press conference, and turn it into a Pro Entergy infomercial. Did it occur to her to STEP FORWARD and CONFRONT HIM ON CAMERA? Or was she afraid she did not have enough grasp of the facts at hand to carry the day...either way, it was a grave and horrid disaster to watch.

A huge opportunity to bring star power to our movement SQUANDERED AWAY.

Unfortunately, it got worse, or as Cafferty would say, "It's getting ugly out there."

As Jim Steets of Entergy was seizing control of Susan Shapiro's moment in the spot light, her proverbial two seconds of fame, the few anti-nuclear folks there, realizing what was occurring, that Susan was frozen in place out of shock started to react but unfortunately far to late as the damage was done.

A few of them started weakly chanting...ok, it was more like a shrill panicked cackle, "He's Lying". The news piece ended as one panicked or irate cackler literally LUNGED towards Jim Steets of Entergy, stumbling in his general direction.

FINE JOB SUSAN SHAPIRO, fine job. This kind of media coverage has probably set our movement back several months , but that is just one writer's lone opinion.

Have we seen the end of PHASE? Will Susan Shapiro resign from this newly formed organization and create yet another anti-nuclear vehicle, after her self chosen resignation from FUSE USA? Alec Baldwin Goes Through a PHASE...

Alec Baldwin in New York Monday to present medical evidence claiming nuclear power plants cause cancer.

As soon as the announcement of the PHASE press conference on Monday in New York staring Alec Baldwin appeared on list servs, did members of the Know_Nuke Yahoo Group quickly remind us of Alec's tirade (YouTube) to his daughther a few months ago, where Alec, screaming over the phone, called her a "rude, thoughtless little pig."

Alec has done some good work on behalf the anti-nuclear community, but like a few people we know, his short fuse has gotten the better of him on quite a few occasions.

Unfortunately, the spat with his daughter via cell phone happened only just a few days after a clinic symposium Alec co-hosted on behalf the effort to shut down the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in New Jersey.

So here at GNB, we wonder what Alec has in store for PHASE, a new group founded by ex-FUSE USA president Susan Shapiro, in guise of unforseen future media scandals. Not that it wouldn't get Indian Point in the headlines some more, Lord knows we need to land the cover of the New York Post!

Such outbursts, and here's another good one, in 1995 Alec caught celebrity photographer Alan Zanger videotaping him - proceeded to break his nose, then covered his truck with shaving cream, only gives the pro-nuclear camp amunition to discredit our spokespeoples as unbalanced and untrustworthy.

Alec now stars in the TV show 30 Rock on NBC, a comedy series about a fictitious TV show at NBC, at Rockefeller Center, poking fun at itself. This week's episode of 30 Rock was part of NBC's Green Week done in association with GE's Ecomagination campaign, transforming all NBC shows into giant GE green product placements, at times so sirupy, it's enough to make millions of Americans run the other direction.

Al Gore Saves The Whales! Funny, yes, for three seconds... how befitting the last image of the show was a happy face earth caught on fire! The mass media is now doing to the green movement, exactly what they did to the hippies in the 60's... defusing it by making light, keeping the true leaders of the movement far away from the mainstream, playing politics.

Interesting that on one hand Alec and GE are using NBC TV shows as promotional vehicles to hype energy efficient appliances, while on the other hand, GE is working to install hundreds of nuclear reactors in a whole new generation of Navy ships, a bill signed and passed into law by no less that our own Hudson Valley anti-nuclear MUSE co-founder Congressman John Hall!

No wonder Kelly Osbourne ran out of a green benefit in Hollywood screaming: "Who gives a f*** about the environment!" She's expressing a cry of desperation at the lip service celebrities, corporations and politicians have paid the movement. She wants her dad to get back in the saddle, finish the job he started with his bandmates in the late 60's... Which is exactly what the Black Sabbath Resurrection tour will be all about, it's about freakin' time the metal hordes come riding back!
