NRC Blames WestCan Council for Rejection of Contentions

In yesterday's post on the Mid-Hudson News Network, a division of Statewide News Network, Inc. is reported that the presidentially appointed commission that oversees the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has rejected an appeal by the groups and a state assemblyman challenging the Indian Point license renewal application under the umbrella of WestCAN.

The groups include the Westchester Citizens Awareness Network (WestCAN), Rockland County Conservation Association, Public Health and Sustainable Energy (PHASE), Sierra Club -- Atlantic Chapter and state Assemblyman Richard Brodsky.

On July 31, the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board panel handling the Indian Point license renewal hearing expelled WestCAN from the proceeding. It did so because the counsel for WestCAN repeatedly disregarded agency regulations and instructions from the panel.

In its ruling Tuesday, the commission upheld the expulsion, noting that the actions by WestCAN's counsel have "seriously disrupted the Board's efforts to meet its responsibility to conduct a fair, orderly and efficient hearing, has interfered with the other participants' efforts to use their own litigation resources efficiently, and has made our own review of the appellate documents and the underlying record far more time-consuming than necessary."

NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said WestCAN does have additional appeal power.

"There’s no further recourse with the NRC. Certainly they have the options if they want to challenge this in federal court, they could seek do so, but as far as the NRC is concerned, this is the end of the line as far as any further appeals."

The commission has also taken the rare step of ordering the NRC's Office of the Secretary to not accept any further filings from Susan Shapiro or Sarah Wagner, the lawyers for WestCAN, unless they meet all procedural requirements. That applies to all NRC proceedings. This has happened in only one other NRC hearing, involving the Millstone case in Connecticut.

Stolen Concert HUGE SUCCESS? Back Patting Beginning

So, two days after the Ani DiFranco/Pete Seeger Concert in Nyack, the artificial back patting and congratulations have begun as everyone sings the praises of Susan Shapiro and Maureen Ritter, while desparately trying to avoid the real subject of the moment...is it true that Susan Shapiro STOLE a FUSE USA fund raising event? Even more disturbing, was the plan all along to use Sherwood Martinelli's talents then throw him overboard because of his politically inappropriate and untimely attacks on politicians like Susan Shapiro's Congressman John Hall?

First, the concert...SOME BASIC FACTS:

1. The concert in Nyack was to have been a FUSE USA fund raising event. In fact and deed, Ulrich Witte himself has to admit to the truth of this. He banked his decision to come to work for FUSE USA on our ability to bring this fund raising event home as it were.

2. Both Pete Seeger and Ani DiFranco were committed to the event LONG BEFORE SUSAN SHAPIRO left FUSE USA.

3. Hate to BURST SUSAN's bubble, but if you were to do the honorable thing, you would admit to everyone that Remy actually suggested Ani quite some time ago to you...to be specific, he first brought her to your attention the day we had our meeting with the NRC, and you commended him on such a good idea. Now, granted, there were only three people in on the parking lot conversation as Susan Shapiro knows, but two of them are both in agreement on the facts, and I have no real reason to support Remy's contentions on this issue, so the readers can draw their own conclusions.

In short, no matter how Susan Shapiro, Maureen Ritter and Michel Lee might like to portray events that occured between October 15th and November 7th when they all resigned from the board of FUSE USA, one thing is certain. Friday nights concert was, and may still be (legally in a court of law) a FUSE USA fund raising benefit, but there is a real good chance that issue will be decided by attorneys, or perhaps by judges and/or a jury at some future date and time. For now, we merely point out, that the event was arranged as a FUSE USA event, and in fact and deed, Ulrich Witte, unless he is willing to perjure himself, knows that Susan Shapiro confirmed to both he and I via emial that Ani DiFranco had agreed to perform for the FUSE USA fund raiser. In fact, he told me personally on the phone the day we got the news, that his fiancee (former?) was a HUGE FAN of her's, and would probably buy 15 tickets herself for the event.

Was it the intention all along for Sherwood Martinelli's talents to be harvested to benefit the Close Indian Point movement, then cast him aside as being to controversial. Was Susan Shapiro being cagey from the onset with Sherwood, was the fund raising event designed from the onset in such a fashion that she could steal away when she and the rest of her crew BOLTED FUSE USA? If not, how was it then that she was able to move everything so quickly into her name, and basically CUT FUSE USA out of the process? As the old saying goes, enquiring minds want to know. This subject, where Sherwood Martinelli stood in the process while he dedicated thousands of hours of his time to the movement is worthy of a LONG ARTICLE that is being written, and will soon be published on this blog...here is one thing to peak your interest.

It is suggested here, that News Reporters ask both Congressman John Hall and Susan Shapiro about the private deal that was made to get Sherwood Martinelli to dismantle his Congressman John Hall Blog, to delete it from the internet. I'll remind both Susan Shapiro, and Congressman John Hall right now, that said removal of my blog was done based upon a promise...a promise that right now is not being kept, a promise made by both Susan Shapiro, and Congressman John Hall himself.

The Remy Susan Wars, Part Two-The Stolen Concert

So, tomorrow night is the BIG Pete Seeger, Ani DiFranco Anti Indian Point Concert in Nyack NY that Susan Shapiro is TAKING ALL THE CREDIT FOR....well, as the old saying goes, hold the phone, we have LATE BREAKING NEWS on this whole STOLEN CONCERT STORY, and Susan's claim that she deserves all the credit, as well as proof that tends to support Remy Chevalier's claim that Susan Shapiro STOLE this significant fund raising event from FUSE USA when on November 7th she tenured her resignation as the organization's president. As a first hand observer of the events, I know for a fact that Friday night's concert was supposed to be, and had been planned as a FUSE USA fund raiser...further more, I know for a fact that Ani DiFranco made a commitment to do this show for FUSE USA while Susan Shapiro was president of FUSE USA....so, this raises a serious question...who is LEGALLY ENTITLED to the funds from Friday nights big Anti Indian Point concert? Some legal experts might weigh all the evidence and say FUSE USA, a still very viable organization is the rightful recipient of these funds...one thing is for sure...Ani DiFranco and Pete Seeger should sit down with all parties before ANY OF THE PROCEEDS are distributed, and make sure that all these issues are resolved before the monies are doled out:

They're opposing the $50 billion tax loan guarantee... but don't worry, we have bridges, like Summer Rayne Oakes... again, I know Bonnie's manager... Jackson Brown is a friend of Nicole Landers, who I did a party with in LA a few months ago... they will be made to pick Indian Point as a central focus of the anti-nuclear effort, by virtue of ground work already done by Rock The Reactors and Green Nuclear Butterfly since April 2006.

This is about connections and coalition building... they may not have time to directly focus on Indian Point, but what we will do will automatically bring the public's attention to focus on IP as their number one target...

Ani would be great...

Contact Phineas and the Lonely Leaves... ask them to play... they are friends of the folks at the Bruised Apple bookstore... they are an amazing new band... grew up in Peekskill...

Another is Slambovian Circus of Dreams, big cult following in this area... grew up in Sleepy Hollow... they helped Rock The Reactors in 2006... If we have a space, and a date, we can invite a lot of performers... there's Stacy Fine who promoted the gig in Woodstock... she's married to the editor of High Times, knows the folks at Paper magazine... knows a lot of musicians... ALL the folks down at the Camp Hill Farm are professional musicians... with some very illustrious associations...

If we get Peter Shapiro on board to help, now with Peter Alexander, and Ken Hays of Gathering of the Vibes... there's going to start a buzz about what we want to do... people will come forward... we just need to stirr the pot... impress on people, a win against Indian Point, will open up the door for a flood of renewable opportunities... a tipping point...

Susan, since Monday, WE have become the anti-nuclear movement, by simple virtue of Wetlands...They will come to us for answers now, because we suddenly got the NRC on the ropes... Nobody has done this before... we're showing them how it's done...

Realize the action Sherwood and I did on the Paramount a few months ago, putting Indian Point information in the hands of all the Bob Weir fans, made a major dent... we just don't experience the results of these things until a little later, delayed reaction... because it's about viral tactics, not front page news, but slow, progressive cultural shifts... it's hard to explain, just watch it happen.

Don't count on the Paramount they get lots of funding from Entergy. We have Riverspace booked for January 19 with Pete Seeger. we need more musicans to play then.

I had a long talk with Tom CAmpbell today, who basiscally says that the regular suspects Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt ,etc are busy setting up a new anti nuke movement and probalbky won't have time for us. (unless of course we can access them directly). Apparently the national issue is there is a bill in front of congress right now to give endless taxpayer funds to nukes and that;s what they are waging a war on.

I tried to express that our battle could help shut them down, but he seemed to think they were already committed in another direction. He has been trying to get Ani DiFranco to committ but no luck yet.

At this point anyone we can get to play with Pete in Nyack in January 18 or 19 would be great for a start. I am seeing Pete this weekend and will ask him to sign a letter asking other musicans to help out.

The Remy Susan Wars-Wrong On Both Parts

Even when I try to take a vacation, get away, recharge my battery, I find myself being dragged into the fray even deeper. I returned from a Bridge Tournament...yes, I play bridge, to find that all hell had broken out in our local Anti-Nuclear community, with people being asked to pick sides in the fight. It all would probably be a NON ISSUE, a private matter between two private parties if at the heart of it all were not both a young and old music legend in Ani Difranco and Pete Seeger, who are doing a music benefit this Friday night to benefit (supposedly) local efforts to shut down Indian Point.

Susan Shapiro, former President of FUSE USA it seems has marched into a local court (using her families political contacts, and daddies money?) seeking an order of protection against eccentric local green guru Remy Chevalier that would require him to stay at least 500 feet away from Susan Shapiro at all times. Despite her protestations, from my own perspective, Susan Shapiro is over reaching, and I have heard her privately say far more demeaning things about Remy Chevalier than he has said about her, including his Christmas Season email greeting (which I have not seen).

Let's face it, when we are pissed off, we tend to say some things, use some words that we might later regret...or not. For instance, I did in fact and deed call the three judge panel in the Indian Point License Renewal case a bunch of pro-nuclear industry pricks, and stand by my ascertion. I know in his email diatribe, that Remy used the b word...curious here, when and if this whole matter goes to court, will Mr. Chevalier get a chance to submit evidence to support his contention, and if so what is the level of proof required to have someone legally deemed a bitch? Further, has Ms. Shapiro given any consideration to this, given due diligence to the repercussions of having a jury agree with Remy Chevalier that she is a bitch? Not saying he could meet the burden of proof for such a declaration, but WHAT IF HE CAN? Would he then be legally entitled to advertise the fact that a court of law, a jury of his peers agrees with his published ascertion that Susan Shapiro is a bitch? Does any one really care?

I wonder if the judge is going to bother looking into all the under lying issues...for that matter, has Pete Seeger or Ani DiFranco or their handlers bothered to look into the issues surrounding this latest court case or Remy's claim that Susan Shapiro stole a benefit that rightfully belongs to FUSE USA? I know they have not bothered to speak with all sides to understand the truth, as none of Ani DiFranco's people have reached out to me on the matter. What exactly has Remy Chevalier so upset with Susan Shapiro? Is there some substance to his claim that Susan Shapiro STOLE THE Ani DiFranco/Pete Seeger Event away from FUSE USA, and thus by proxy away from Remy Chevalier.

Perhaps the judge should ask Susan Shapiro to produce into evidence a late September/early October email that was sent to both I, and Ulrich Witte wherein Susan Shapiro makes it official that we (we being FUSE USA) have Ani DiFranco committed to a concert to benefit FUSE USA, but that she does not want us making the information public until all the contracts are signed. WHOOPS, is that an inconvenient truth I just let slip out of the bag? Maybe I am expecting to much here, but where are Pete Seeger and Ani DiFranco in resolving this dispute, and setting the parties down, and doing what is right, upholding their promises as originally made? Remy is absolutely correct when he states that the Ani DiFranco concert was a FUSE USA event! I do have the email to prove that contention.

Perhaps the judge should take a close look at how Susan is more than likely justifying now owning that event, and the supposedly legal board votes that were taken on November 7th, 2007 wherein Michele Lee, Susan Shapiro and Maureen Ritter gave themselves full right and ownership of ALL FUSE USA property, then immediately resigned from the board after wiping out all the funds in the FUSE USA checking account. Again I am curious to know if Pete Seeger or Ani DiFranco have bothered to look into THESE FACTS? Why haven't they asked the very obvious question...where is FUSE USA, or is that something that was also disposed of behind closed doors? If it was disposed of behind closed doors, are these two music legends awared of all the fingerprints left behind to prove the facts I am alleging here?

Susan Shapiro is an attorney...she represented FUSE USA on its board, but also as its attorney of record before the NRC, and in other legal matters. Is the judge going to look at the fact that some two months later, Susan Shapiro has NOT returned to FUSE USA the entire NRC legal file and all under lying documents?

Seems to me, that if Remy Chevalier is going to be dragged before a court for losing his temper and saying some stupid, ill advised things in an email, then so too should the judge take a serious look at Susan Shapiro, and all the events that led up to that email...after all, it should be important to serving justice to put that email in its proper perspective.

Wake Up Call!

It's gotten to the point, where it's just too complicated to explain... so if people haven't been paying attention, they're just going to be left in the wake of things. Last night I sent out an invitation to my mailing list for the Fairfield County Greendrinks I'm co-hosting this Wednesday with Heather Burns-DeMelo at the Papaya Thai tiki bar in South Norwalk, Connecticut.

Now anyone with half a brain knows what that's all about... It's about deep market penetration for green products and services into the most affluent suburb in America, 200.000 homes median value $1 million dollars! Unlike New York City, where all the good green folks who attend Greendrinks, can't do anything about the buildings they live in, because they all rent, have landlords, most of them time warp stuck in the 19th Century, except for a few progressive green architects who have now embraced LEED as their new religion, there's little or nothing you can actually do to green your neighborhood, other than change your lightbulbs and recycle.

Not the case in Fairfield County, where everybody owns their little 2 acres of the American dream, and suddenly, green ambitions are more than just the Prius, they become about how much energy your house consumes, how little the new carpet out gasses, how organic your food is!

Now to me, who's been at this for going on too many years... in fact working developing all the materials now going into all these new green construction and interior design technologies, the thrill of green has gently waned... as the impending reality of rising waters strikes me at the gut level... there's still a warm place in my heart for all these people who have finally come into their own, who can see the connection between their buying habits, and the fate of the planet, who can understand they vote with their dollar, but my mind is somewhere else now... a much more pressing matter... survival of the species.

So it should be plain to see, for anyone fighting to shut down Indian Point, that for every new Light Emitting Diode system installed in a home or business, for every new energy saving device, it reduces our need for the extra power nuclear provides. It's that "magic" alternative power Governor Spitzer mentioned, which got my Rock The Reactors campaign going... but then, when he got in office, he never started the count down clock... he lied.

So it's no surprise then, that this morning, Robert Kennedy Jr's errand boy at Riverkeeper, shoots me an email to take him off my mass list, in his words: "Needless to say, you should take me off your list. not sure why you'd have me on there to begin with." This while a LED Christmas tree shines in middle of Rockefeller Center, brashly trumpeting a new era of energy conservation, which is again going to make General Electric billions, since they pretty much own all the LED patents!!!

So there you have it... a year and a half ago I start a campaign to shut down Indian Point, I tell everyone that LED can do the job, I educate the entire Hudson Valley, all of Fairfield County... businessmen from here to California... I make it happen... and the best Alex at Riverkeeper can say is take me off your list!

Well Alex, keep this in mind, I didn't work all these years fashioning green super models so you could capitalize on them... Sorry mate, but Hachette and Conde Nast, I'm taking them with me, and there's nothing your little Rockefeller/Kennedy cabal can do about it. Never mind Hachette bought Ted's autobiography. Indian Point NIMBY... Cape Wind NIMBY... cough... oops... Looks like there's fires you can't put out in your backyard... Gee, sorry bout that... didn't mean to scare the locals.

Face it, this is a lot bigger than anyone thought possible... you can't control a brush fire... Indian Point has become a national symbol, an international symbol, by excluding Rock The Reactors, Green Nuclear Butterfly, FUSE USA, by stealing our ideas and our work, by not giving credit where credit is due, you're just polarizing the issue... the haves and the have nots... making things worse... squewing the dynamics... It's Vera Cruz. You want this to be nice and clean, when we need this to degenerate into complete chaos, so we can resolve some old business.

Let it go, it's not because Susan Shapiro stole the non-profit paper work from FUSE USA, and access to the bank account that it puts our team out of commission. On the contrary, it just reinforces our resolve, not only to shut down Indian Point, but to make Indian Point the key center of attention in the 2008 election... Keep IP open, the planet dies... the death culture prevails... close it, we walk into a new green era, we stand a chance turning the Titanic away from the iceberg. Harvey Wasserman gets it, but he's got chicken feet... won't come to terms with the fact his buddy John Hall sold out his youthful NoNukes yearning for a pension.

Anyway, enough of a rant for a Tuesday morning, just wanted to let everyone know I'm still alive, and for Alex to take a chill pill... I told Robert I'd shut down Indian Point, and I intend to do just that... See you on the barricades! The question still remains, which side will you be on?

Marilyn Elie of IPSEC Worried About FUSE USA Fallout?

From the little bird department...it seems that Marilyn Elie is worried about the possible negative fall out surrounding the departure of Susan Shapiro from the FUSE USA board of directors. Apparently, she feels Sherwood (that would be me) has opened up another battle front by going so PUBLIC about the FUSE USA break-up. She is worried about what might happen when Entergy gets hold of this information.

For starters, Marilyn Elie can quit worrying, as Entergy already knows, which is verified in Entergy's Thanksgiving Eve Motion To Strike wherein they note the resignation from FUSE USA of Susan Shapiro. First, lets look at the meat of the motion:

As discussed below, FUSE has repeatedly flouted the Commission's Rules of Practice as well as explicit directions by the presiding Atomic Safety and Licensing Board regarding, among other things, service of its Petitions.

Hysterical accusation coming from a company with as many EXEMPTIONS from the rules as Entergy has. Now, FUSE USA obviously disagrees with Entergy's assessments of the situation, but moving on, let us see what these attorneys have to say about Susan Shapiro:

It is reasonable to have expected that Ms. Shapiro, as an attorney, would have mindful of these very elemental requirements without the need for a reminder by the board.

OUCH...talk about a sucker punch from her own colleagues! FUSE USA is in the process of correcting these issues, and will be providing adequate service to Entergy as relates to our "Non-Susan Shapiro" Petition filed in November. It is noted here in defense of Susan Shapiro, that the Federal Registry Notice is at best cloudy on the issue of "Service" stating that Petitions should provide Entergy with a copy of their filings.

As to Marilyn Elie's advice that I should remain mute should a news reporter call for a comment, she can rest assured that FUSE USA just today spoke with a reporter, though not directly related to her areas of concern. Marilyn apparently wants it to appear, that everyone is on the same game page when it comes to shutting down Indian Point.

Now, what I find amazing, is Marilyn's announcement on the IPSEC list about a slew of filings they are intending on filing with the NRC this week. Considering her private email to me last month wherein she stated IPSEC would not be filing any contentions, curious where this major change came from, and how they are planning to hit the ground running now on be a player in this game? Could it be, that they are taking FUSE USA work product, the work product of Sherwood Martinelli, and redrafting it as their own? If so, do they plan on giving CREDIT WHERE CREDIT is due? Have they obtained a release of any kind from FUSE USA for work product created by FUSE USA in preparing their contentions? Inquiring Minds want to know.

Susan Shapiro Strategy for Shutting Down Indian Point?

This past Monday, PHASE held a news conference in New York that got ambushed by Entergy and their PR people. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then what is one propaganda video worth to Entergy? You be the judge...does the shut down Indian Point movement look good in this video found on a Norris McDonald blog?

Liar, Liar, Pants On Fire!

The anti-nuclear movement eats its own... and it's all for the good... because the more people talk about the rebirth of the anti-nuclear movement, good or bad, there's no such thing as bad press, just spell my name correctly "so it comes up in Google!"

Look, face it, back in 2006... nobody was even aware that Indian Point was coming up for relicensing... None of the lead organizations in the "movement" (if movement there still was) to shut down Indian Point were getting ready for the big battle on the Hudson.

Everybody in New York had pretty much given up... I remember one woman with a table at the Earthday fair outside Grand Central in April of 2006... I'd just posted our pictures of Betcee May posing in front of Indian Point on my website, Rock The Reactors had just been born... I told her with conviction, "We're going to shut down Indian Point!" and she started crying, because she beleived me... I knew in my heart it was possible... that feeling I had was contagious.

I wasn't taking no for an answer... all these people who came to me and said Remy, you're crazy, you're set as King Green, why go stir that puddle of mud and torpedo your career as green mentor to the rich and famous? But I didn't listen, I found myself at the Vanity Fair green issue party a few days later, and first thing that came to mind, in front of le tout green New York was to walk up to ex-Governor Pataki, stand firmly in front of him, and recite that same mantra: "I'm going to shut down Indian Point!"

I didn't say "we" because at the time, there was no "we"... except for Betcee and Seth Leitman who were both starting to think I'd gone completely crazy... amazing what one will do on blue eye whim... I was all alone... I remember calling on Clearwater and Riverkeeper a few times, offering help and assistance, showing them my new webpage, trying to explain that hey guys, I got experience as an organizer, I've hosted huge parties, I've built nightclubs, I've promoted rock shows and helped put hundreds of green products on store shelves... I can sell this, I can brand this... I can get this all over the news!!! They wouldn't hear of it... It was like talking to a stone wall... they were dead set on the politics of failure, they wouldn't let me in, I didn't exist... That's when I realized I was truly on my own if I wanted to get the job done.

So rather than waste my time climbing up a broken down ol'tree made up of tired, battle worn defeatists, I decided to take it on the road... I'd been planning a trip going down Route 66 to promote electric cars... and so, I made it about electric cars and shutting down Indian Point... I took my message across the entire country, making friends, carving strong alliances with anti-nuclear groups all over the land... by the time Sherwood Martinelli and I discovered each other on the Information Superhighway, we just plugged into each other's network and Green Nuclear Butterfly was born, sweaping the anti-nuclear movement by storm, creating the largest coalition since the Clamshell Alliance, but all invisible to the naked eye, because the media hadn't picked up on it yet, still hasn't really... it's the elephant in the room.

Sherwood is the hardest working son-of-a-bitch I've ever met... I'm a workaolic, he's worse... I keep praying he doesn't give himself a stroke... then all the balls in the air would fall back flat on the ground, and we'd be right back where we started... because there is no campaign to shut down Indian Point without Sherwood Martinelli and his contentions... and there is no campaign to shut down Indian Point without Green Nuclear Butterfly and Rock The Reactors beating the drum with a battle cry! There is no shut down of Indian Point without FUSE USA!

Once IPSEC finally woke up to the fact Sherwood had stumbled on a legal mean to stop Indian Point dead in its tracks, it went looking for him... that's how the IPSEC subcommittee was born, with Susan Shapiro as its point person... they had Sherwood chained to the basement writing his contentions like masters rule over their slave on the plantation. And of course, they kept me at bay... They did everything they could to break us up... we played along, for as long as we could, until it flew apart like a sling shot!

Last night's train wreck on the New York Nightly News with Chuck Scarborough is a testament to IPSEC's incompetence, its complete abject lack of media savvy, the reason why after so many years, Indian Point, despite its horrendous technical and public image problems, is still open, still ticking away, still looming over the Hudson Valley, a disaster waiting to happen. And it's all because Riverkeeper, Clearwater and IPSEC can't get their act together long enough to hire a PR firm! So guess what, de-facto, Sherwood and I became their propaganda arm... Hey, nobody else was doing it, we had the field wide open... We sold the shut down of Indian Point to the masses, with our antics, our blogs, our fierce determination and yes, courage.

That's why the resistance is building up into this gigantic wall of insanity, where even the head of PR for Entergy is out there on National TV, making a complete fool of himself, because we put him to it, and he fell for it hook, line and sinker!

And this is only the second act! Can you imagine what we have in store for you once all the contentions are in, once Sherwood and I can get back to outreach and promotion? Yippie... You know the saying, nobody is going to come to your revolution if it ain't fun... it's got to be a party... I'm going back to my old heavy metal roots, putting out a call to all my heavy metal friends... we can do this guys, we really can... I mean look around you, MySpace and YouTube are making stars out of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul, the two most unlikely Democrat and Republican candidates any US election has ever known... Pro-nuke Hilary Clinton's got American flags falling down all around her, touching the ground... bad omen... We don't need the media anymore, We're the media!!!

Doesn't that tell you something, that if the family which owns the Federal Bank Reserve, holds court at the Bohemian Grove and Bilderberg conferences, with its trillions of dollars in secret assets all over the globe... yet that same family still can't find a simple, quick and easy way to unplug an old raggedy nuke just a few miles from its organic hog farm, that something's just a little too politically screwy? Let's not forget Laurance Rockefeller, David's brother, funded the When Cosmic Cultures Meet conference in Washington and a companion UFO report for members of the Hill.

So now John is out there making deals, thinking that maybe by playing the game, selling out here, selling out there, the NRC will give him Indian Point... making Faustian bargains with a devil... because John forgot his roots in rock & roll... he forgot rust never sleeps, he forgot Sisters of Mercy's Mother Russia... and War Pigs! Selling his soul down the river for an all nuclear Navy... and all this time his friends are standing by him, because they don't know any different... they're so afraid of the new world Sherwood Martinelli and I come from... an unholy alliance between the Grateful Dead and Black Sabbath... they don't see or feel the rumble of the Rainbow warriors, the intentional communities, the tribal subcultures, folks who haven't given up their guitar picks and the song in their heart for a blue suit, a red tie, and a retirement fund!

The debacle on NBC last night was nothing short of shameful... an event FUSE USA had been preparing, scheduling, nurturing, to be something extraordinary and special, stolen from us at the last possible minute, because they couldn't bare Green Nuclear Butterfly keeps pointing out the emperor has no clothes! Nuke Free... into FUSE USA... that's the plan... those who really, really want to shut down Indian Point, not just quietly see it go away, make it into a rallying cry for saving what's left of our humanity, this is where we are every morning, reading this blog... keeping up with the constant soap opera that is our lives.

There is no Phase... there is a new and improved FUSE USA which is going to take the ball all the way down to the finish line... and slam dunk that sucker on the grass so hard, they'll have to pry it out with a crane!

PHASE, Alec Baldwin Hold Pro Entergy Press Conference?

Talk about the anti-nuclear movement taking a HUGE BLACK EYE. Today's press conference in New York with Alec Baldwin was it...at least, that is the way it appeared on the coverage seen on NBC's New York Nightly News with Chuck Scarborough this evening on Channel 4.

Lead off hitter was Alec Baldwin, with Susan Shapiro, as always lurking just behind him with her ever present scowl. The first words out of his mouth were, "I'm not necessarily against Nuclear Energy"!

Holly CRAP Batman!

That ranks right up there with Maurice Hinchey, Nita Lowey and anti-nuclear musician now Congressman John Hall voting in favor of a all Nuclear Navy. PHASE should have maybe discussed Alex's message with him before he went to the microphone? This movement, supposedly PHASE as an organization is about shutting down dangerous nuclear reactors, not giving a back handed quasi endorsement to the Nuclear Industry that maybe SOME PLANTS could be safe.

Next up, was Joe Mangano who got a decent single up the middle speaking to a very sparse crowd...basically, NBC did not give him much coverage, and did a poor close up of a document assumed to be his work for about five seconds. It is a pity as his work is very important, and deserved far better.

From here on out things went rapidly down hill, as the press conference, and who was allowed to seize control of it should have been much better handled...IE, who let Jim Steets in? Talk about sandbagging the opposition, Susan Shapiro left herself, and thus the anti-nuclear movement wide open for attack today.

There is Joe Mangano speaking, then fad to a picture of the Indian Point reactors, and then, BAM, Susan Shapiro with her mouth gaping in shock is seen standing off to the back and side as she lets Entergy Villain Jim Steets take over and steal the press conference, and turn it into a Pro Entergy infomercial. Did it occur to her to STEP FORWARD and CONFRONT HIM ON CAMERA? Or was she afraid she did not have enough grasp of the facts at hand to carry the day...either way, it was a grave and horrid disaster to watch.

A huge opportunity to bring star power to our movement SQUANDERED AWAY.

Unfortunately, it got worse, or as Cafferty would say, "It's getting ugly out there."

As Jim Steets of Entergy was seizing control of Susan Shapiro's moment in the spot light, her proverbial two seconds of fame, the few anti-nuclear folks there, realizing what was occurring, that Susan was frozen in place out of shock started to react but unfortunately far to late as the damage was done.

A few of them started weakly chanting...ok, it was more like a shrill panicked cackle, "He's Lying". The news piece ended as one panicked or irate cackler literally LUNGED towards Jim Steets of Entergy, stumbling in his general direction.

FINE JOB SUSAN SHAPIRO, fine job. This kind of media coverage has probably set our movement back several months , but that is just one writer's lone opinion.

Have we seen the end of PHASE? Will Susan Shapiro resign from this newly formed organization and create yet another anti-nuclear vehicle, after her self chosen resignation from FUSE USA? Stay tuned to this same Green Butterfly Channel as we watch the exciting exploits of Rockland County's self proclaimed anti-nuclear maven.

Alec Baldwin Goes Through a PHASE...

Alec Baldwin in New York Monday to present medical evidence claiming nuclear power plants cause cancer.

As soon as the announcement of the PHASE press conference on Monday in New York staring Alec Baldwin appeared on list servs, did members of the Know_Nuke Yahoo Group quickly remind us of Alec's tirade (YouTube) to his daughther a few months ago, where Alec, screaming over the phone, called her a "rude, thoughtless little pig."

Alec has done some good work on behalf the anti-nuclear community, but like a few people we know, his short fuse has gotten the better of him on quite a few occasions.

Unfortunately, the spat with his daughter via cell phone happened only just a few days after a clinic symposium Alec co-hosted on behalf the effort to shut down the Oyster Creek nuclear power plant in New Jersey.

So here at GNB, we wonder what Alec has in store for PHASE, a new group founded by ex-FUSE USA president Susan Shapiro, in guise of unforseen future media scandals. Not that it wouldn't get Indian Point in the headlines some more, Lord knows we need to land the cover of the New York Post!

Such outbursts, and here's another good one, in 1995 Alec caught celebrity photographer Alan Zanger videotaping him - proceeded to break his nose, then covered his truck with shaving cream, only gives the pro-nuclear camp amunition to discredit our spokespeoples as unbalanced and untrustworthy.

Alec now stars in the TV show 30 Rock on NBC, a comedy series about a fictitious TV show at NBC, at Rockefeller Center, poking fun at itself. This week's episode of 30 Rock was part of NBC's Green Week done in association with GE's Ecomagination campaign, transforming all NBC shows into giant GE green product placements, at times so sirupy, it's enough to make millions of Americans run the other direction.

Al Gore Saves The Whales! Funny, yes, for three seconds... how befitting the last image of the show was a happy face earth caught on fire! The mass media is now doing to the green movement, exactly what they did to the hippies in the 60's... defusing it by making light, keeping the true leaders of the movement far away from the mainstream, playing politics.

Interesting that on one hand Alec and GE are using NBC TV shows as promotional vehicles to hype energy efficient appliances, while on the other hand, GE is working to install hundreds of nuclear reactors in a whole new generation of Navy ships, a bill signed and passed into law by no less that our own Hudson Valley anti-nuclear MUSE co-founder Congressman John Hall!

No wonder Kelly Osbourne ran out of a green benefit in Hollywood screaming: "Who gives a f*** about the environment!" She's expressing a cry of desperation at the lip service celebrities, corporations and politicians have paid the movement. She wants her dad to get back in the saddle, finish the job he started with his bandmates in the late 60's... Which is exactly what the Black Sabbath Resurrection tour will be all about, it's about freakin' time the metal hordes come riding back!

I agree that changes in our neighborhood affect us, but it is short sighted to think that if there is a radiological event at Indian Point you won't be affected, especially if you are living with in 10 -20 -50 miles.

All of Rockland County is within 17 miles of Indian Point, the peak FATALITY ZONE.

The truth is that the thyroid cancer rates in Rockland County are 50% higher then the rest of the state. The only way you can get thryoid cancer is from exposure to radiation. The areas of Stony Point, Haverstraw and West Haverstraw are the highest.

The reality is if , God forbid, there is an accident at Indian Point, you will be much more affected than if next door to you they build a million houses, because no one has insurance against a radiological events, check out our home owners insurance.... read the fine print. That's right the insurance companies decided a long time ago the risk was just too great to insure. So if something happens, and we are all evacuated (not just for a few days, but forever) and we'd still have to pay our mortgages, and quite possible lose our health.

Our government has cap nuclear plant liabilty to 200 million dollar, even though estimates for an nuclear accident are approx $313 billion.An accident or terrorist attack at Indian Point would affect every single person in Rockland County. Our health, our homes and lives would be changed forever and this area would become uninhabitable for thousands of years.
