IAEA Inspection of Japan Reactor Site Inadequate

Asking the IAEA to Do The Inspection Is Like The Fox Guarding The Hen House
The IAEA, along with the NRC have a very vested interest in GNEP and the Nuclear Renaissance continuing to move forward...any inspection team put together by the IAEA and/or the NRC is going to be biased in favor of their agenda, biased in favor of both the NEI and the nuclear industries agenda. I point this out, as some in Japan are calling for a full and complete inspection of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear plant owned by TEPCO before same is allowed to go back online.

TEPCO is loosing millions of dollars a day in power output because of the shutdown, and the nuclear industry as a whole is taking a huge public relations black eye as a result of the moutainous pile of problems and leaks at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa after last weeks earthquake...they, simply put, want to stop the bleeding. Any team sent in by the IAEA and/or NRC is going to have one agenda, and only one agenda. Bury public worry and contemplation by issuing a report that makes the plant seem/appear safe.

What is needed, is and ISA (Independant Safety Assessment) of the entire facility. The team, as much as is reasonably possible needs to be composed of grass roots environmentalist, and structural specialists that have NO TIES whatsoever with the nuclear industry. Trade Minister Akira Amari letter to the Prime Minister calling for and IAEA inspection team is at best a decietful ruse aimed at providing false assurances so that everything can return to normal sooner rather than later. The citizens of Japan must demand better than this, must accept nothing less than and impartial ISA.
