Indian Point Radiation Contributed to Or Caused My Wife's Cancer

Sure the Pro-Industry folks wish I would simply go away...hard to do when you live three miles from a problem plagued dangerous nuclear reactor wrongfully trying to get itself relicensed for another 20 years of operation...even harder to do when you find out your wife has breast cancer and you are convinced that Entergy's poor management, and Indian Point's leaking reactors play a crucial role in that cancer, and in the cancer of two of our cats. Carrying on the fight I was meant to be involved in, have recently filed more Petitions with the NRC...for those battling Entergy in the License Renewal Case, you might find the NRC's most recent response to that Petition interesting.

Mr. Martinelli,

The NRR Petition Review Board (PRB) has reviewed your 10CFR2.206
petition dated March 30, 2008, which requests enforcement action against
Indian Point 2 and 3. Your petition requests that the NRC suspend the
units operating licenses. You also requested that the NRC halt the
license renewal process.

You provided some supporting facts and known issues in your petition.

The PRB proposes to reject, due to insufficient facts, the basis in
paragraphs 1 and 2 as a basis for plant license suspension as the PRB
has no evidence that the current releases from the plant exceed the
NRC's regulatory limits. It is noted here, that though a release may

be within LEGAL LIMITS, it might not be low enough to protect human

health and the environment...the NRC is charged with protecting our

health first and foremost, and if that means ceasing operations because

NOW ADMITTED RELEASES are causing cancers, human health is at

risk, then the NRC must do its job, and suspend operations at the plant

until such time as the LEAKS into air, water and ground at stopped.

For paragraphs 3 and 4, the PRB is not aware of any hot leg leaks at
the facility (even if there were, there is no path to the groundwater).
The PRB is also not aware of any leaks in violation of the NRC's
regulations. This is a lie...the TRITIUM LEAKS are not within the

the constraints of the license, and the ongoing two year investigation

is proof of this reality. However, there are underground plumes containing
radioactive isotopes which have reached the Hudson River. The Press, The public

and attorneys need to TAKE NOTICE of this admission...we have the NRC admitting

in this email to me that radioactive leaks from the plant are reaching the Hudson River

The PRBproposes to combine this aspect of your petition with your previous
petition dated June 25, 2007, on groundwater contamination, which the
NRC accepted for review by letter dated February 1, 2008. A proposed
Director's Decision is being prepared for this petition, and is expected
to be issued by May 30, 2008.

For paragraph 5, the PRB acknowledges that Entergy is in violation of
two NRC orders on the new siren system, and the new siren system is
still not in operation. With my wife now in a high risk group, a non-working

siren in the case of a release puts her at HIGH RISK of additional exposure

further elevating her cancer risk...yet the NRC refuses to take the needed

action of CLOSING THE PLANT till the sirens are working. Why?

The PRB proposes to combine this aspect of your
petition with your previous petition dated September 28, 2007, on the
new siren system, which the NRC accepted for review by letter dated
February 12, 2008. A proposed Director's Decision is being prepared for
this petition. Due to the complexities involved with this proposed
Director's Decision, it is not expected to be issued until October
2008.

You also requested that the NRC halt the license renewal process for
Indian Point 2 and 3. Because this request is not for an
enforcement-related action, it does not meet the criteria for acceptance
in the 10 CFR 2.206 process. My request is an enforcement-related action.

The board has the right to take action on ANY LICENSE or License procedure

because of rules violations, and that would include stopping the license renewal activity

until such time as Entergy is within FULL COMPLIANCE.

You may discuss your petition with the PRB if you desire to comment on
the PRB's recommendations or present additional information. This may be
in a public meeting at NRC headquarters in Rockville, MD, or by
teleconference. If it is by teleconference, it will be recorded,
transcribed, and added to the public record. Please let me know by April
22, 2008, if you want a discussion with the PRB, and I will arrange a
mutually agreeable date. The licensee will be invited to participate.

Your petition has not been made public yet, but I am in the process of

November 7th Radiation Leak At Indian Point...How Come We Did Not Know About It?

OK, call me VERY PERPLEXED, and more than a bit disturbed. I just found something on the Westchester Emergency Site about a LEAK AT INDIAN POINT on November 7th, and the news release says there was a partial evacuation going on? What gives, where were the sirens, where was Channel 12? If it was a test of their plan, why leave these reports laying around on the web site to worry the population? Especially those of us that were in the area supposedly being evacuated.

County Executive Andy Spano has announced that emergency evacuation buses for the general public will begin picking up passengers at 1:00 p.m. today in Buchanan, Peekskill, Verplanck, Montrose, Cortlandt and Croton-on-Hudson.

Entergy, the operator of the Indian Point nuclear power plant, has reported a release of radiation at the plant.

However, field monitoring teams from the county’s Health Department who took readings earlier detected only background levels of radiation. Those readings were taken at lower South Street and Welcher Ave. in Peekskill, which is within 2 miles of the plant, and Furnace Dock Road and Maple Avenue in Cortlandt, about 5 miles from the plant.

Field monitoring teams are composed of specially trained environmental health inspectors who have the capability of determining whether radiation has been released from the nuclear power plant. Field monitoring teams measure the actual amount of radiation in the environment.

County Health Commissioner Dr. Joshua Lipsman M.D., M.P.H is in the Emergency Operations Center to oversee the field monitoring teams and to assess their results.

A General Emergency, which was declared at Indian Point at 11:51 a.m., is the most serious of four classifications of radiological emergency as designated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Residents in these areas with mobility impairments are advised to call (914) 493-8251 if they need assistance in evacuating the area. TDD for the deaf is available by calling (914) 593-5905.

Residents within the Emergency Planning Zone are urged to tune into a local or New York City radio station for up-to-the-minute information.

These areas are being taken for the protection of the public. County officials are continuing to monitor the situation at Indian Point.

Those leaving their homes are asked to lock all doors and windows and take blankets and pillows as well as any important medications and to swallow one 130 milligram dose of KI – potassium iodide (Children under 1 year should be given a 65 milligram dose – one half the tablet). If you do not have KI you will be able to get it at your reception center. In Westchester County, KI can be obtained at two additional locations: Rockefeller State Park, Route 117 in Mount Pleasant; or the South rest stop on Route 684 near Katonah.

No pets will be allowed on the buses.

Hi All:

As some of you know, and some do not, I have been working very hard on the issue of Indian Point, trying to either A) stop it's relicensing for a period of 20 more years, or B) if said plant is relicensed, have some of the serious safety issues addressed before it is relicensed. (Examples would include for instance the strontium and tritium leaks on the Indian Point site that are finding their way into the ground water, and into the Hudson River, lack of any mention in the Environmental Report of Refurbishment-even though Entergy has two reactor vessel heads on order, as well as health concerns related to Entergy's continued operation.)

Right now, I am putting the final touches on a Petition to Intervene, and Formal Request for a hearing that will be sent off to the NRC. Said Petition raises 17 Contentions specifically related to Indian Point 3, and I and FUSE USA are looking for a few people concerned with our environment to co-sign this petition today. Cruising the Internet found and article from the Wall Street Journal that shows unknown and/or undetected leaks were being located divulged as late as Wednesday night. This means radioactive contaminants were finding their way into the AIR and WATER people breath and drink for almost three days completely unchecked. How many more horrid secrets are yet not known about these seven monster reactors?

KASHIWAZAKI, Japan -- Leaks at an earthquake-battered nuclear-power plant continued undetected even as officials assured the public that the damage posed no outside danger, it was learned Thursday, casting deep doubts on the plant's emergency measures and the response by Japan's largest power company.

The indefinite shutdown of the plant also raised serious fears of a summer power shortage.

Officials at Tokyo Electric Power Co. confirmed Thursday that radioactive material was leaking as late as Wednesday night, two days after the plant suffered a near-direct hit by Monday's quake, which killed 10 people and injured more than 1,000 in Kashiwazaki.

Claims to have all the answers, knows exactly what was leaked and how, but fails to mention any of the newly found leaks! Talk about someone talking out of their ASS! Putting The Radiation Release at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa in the Proper Perspective

Let me make something clear at the outset: All over the world, the nuclear industry takes the events in Japan very seriously. With that in mind, here's some proper perspective from We Support Lee on just how much radioactive material was released from the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant this week:

After previous scandals, and corporate chicanery, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) created a vision page on their web site that outlines their plans and promises to restore confidence and integrity to their company. The lies and coverup of the truth after the devastating earthquake earlier this week leads one to believe that NOTHING HAS CHANGED...for our readers enjoyment we have taken the liberty of posting their page below, with our own added commentary in red.

Improving the Corporate Culture
In September 2002, TEPCO implemented countermeasures to guard against a reoccurrence of incidents with regard to inspection and maintenance operations at our nuclear power stations. At the same time, the Company announced four commitments in the interest of creating a "Corporate system and climate of individual responsibility and initiative." The actualization of the four commitments has been adopted as our social mission, and the entire Company is deeply involved in the effort.

How involved can they really be in this social mission if they hid radioactive leaks from members of the host community around the plant for almost nine hours?

To restore public confidence, it is essential to give top priority to safety in our operations. However, every employee from management to the front line of operations must once again consider that a "sense of security" can be gained only when two vital factors are both satisfied: "Assuring Safety" and "Building Mutual Trust."

Giving top priority to safety does not mean hiding the truth. Giving top priority to safety does not mean keeping the truth from the courts about a known earthquake fault in the name of getting a citizens law suit dismissed. Building mutual trust requires FULL DISCLOSURE, and it is a pretty safe bet that we still do not have the FULL TRUTH from TEPCO regarding the level of damage done to their reactors during and following the earthquake.

Through strict safety procedures, TEPCO must make every effort to restore public confidence, beginning with the citizens of the regions in which its plants are located and extending to society at large.
Think we all can agree that TEPCO is failing miserably in their efforts to restore public confidence with anyone.

1. Promoting disclosure of information and ensuring transparency of nuclear operations. Through conducting thorough information disclosure, TEPCO has established a system of independent inspections, and is highly transparent in the operation of its power generation plants.

- Disclose information on the management and operation of our nuclear power stations, so the public is able to confirm that our plants are being operated safely
- Established a scheme to check nuclear safety and quality control by a third party.

After all the hiding of SERIOUS safety issues earlier this week, seems the only way TEPCO could prove they have any integrity at all, is too now agree to and Independent Safety Assessment (ISA). The assessment team should include at least two members from the host community (average citizens), and two members of anti-nuclear grassroots organizations to act as watchdogs.

2. Creating a work environment where proper operations can be carried out
We will strengthen functions that contribute to proper performance of job-related duties by our employees and organizations.

- Set up an office to address ethical concerns. Like failing to notify citizens of radioactive leaks?
- Established a Discrepancy Resolution Committee, a cross-organizational committee, which handles discrepancies in each plant. Like almost 400 gallons of radioactive materials dumped into the sea, while reporting two liters?
- Reviewing all rules and manuals of the company.

3. Strengthening internal surveillance and reforming our corporate culture
TEPCO is re-establishing the existing corporate culture of the Nuclear Power Division, and is building a corporate climate which produces cooperative atmosphere.

- Establish a quality assurance system in the Nuclear Power Division. We see this is not working out all that well.
- Energize internal communications to share an awareness of issues through every stratum and division of the Company. Not working, or there would not have been so many horrid mistakes made in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Japanese Government, Tokyo Electric HIDE Radioactive Leak FROM PUBLIC

In shades of an NRC cover up that Bush would be proud of, seems that the Government of Japan, and the Tokyo Electric Company kept the public in the dark about hundreds of gallons of radioactive materials spewing into the sea after the early morning earthquake. Seems that Japan has taken a page out of the NEI/NRC play book...if there is and accident, try to cover it up, and keep the news from the general public for as long as you can. Which explains why it is that NRC/DOE and FEMA have a whole bunch of FAKE news pieces in the can for when the major nuclear incident hits here in America, more than likely at Indian Point, since Entergy's failing reactor on the Hudson is a serious target for results minded terrorists around the world. After all, if we knew the truth, we would NEVER voluntarily shelter in place, but like lambs to slaughter, that is just what Entergy and the NRC have planned for us...sheltering in place, sentencing us to slow deaths with a skant 40 percent level of protection from the fallout after a terrorist attack, or significant incident at the plant. Guess the money players in Japan were thinking along similiar strategy lines in keeping the public stupid today.

KASHIWAZAKI, Japan (AP) - A strong earthquake shook Japan's northwest coast Monday, setting off a fire at the world's most powerful nuclear power plant and causing a reactor to spill radioactive water into the sea - an accident not reported to the public for hours.

The 6.8-magnitude temblor killed at least 8 people and injured more than 900 as it toppled hundreds of wooden homes and tore 3-foot-wide fissures in the ground. Highways and bridges buckled, leaving officials struggling to get emergency supplies into the region.

Some 10,000 people fled to evacuation centers as aftershocks rattled the area. Tens of thousands of homes were left without water or power.

The quake triggered a fire in an electrical transformer and also caused a leak of radioactive water at the Kashiwazaki Kariwa nuclear power plant, the world's largest in terms of electricity output.

The leak was not announced until the evening, many hours after the quake. That fed fresh concerns about the safety of Japan's 55 nuclear reactors, which supply 30 percent of the quake-prone country's electricity and have suffered a long string of accidents and cover-ups.

Curious here...does Entergy have a financial interest or stake in Japan's problem plagued Nuclear industry? If the littany of mistakes, problems, and leaks is any example, the Green Nuclear Butterfly is betting that Entergy has a stake in Japan's nuclear present and future, and that is a scary thought indeed.

Thoughts After A Full Day at Clearwater Festival

It's 10:21 PM, Saturday June 16th, 2007 and I have just spent the entire day at the Clearwater Festival over in Croton on The Hudson as a volunteer. We accomplished, it is hoped, some wonderful things. Not sure for how long, but planning on being back there again tomorrow beating the pavement for more signatures.

Our Petition for Rule Making which will be filed with the NRC next week now has over 50 signatures on it...a good start, though had hoped for far more. Our location could have been a lot better, and in the lessons learned department, I should have opted for my own booth as the Green Nuclear Butterfly. We also had around 70 people who have an interest in being interveners sign up to attend and as yet to be announced informational meeting on what that will entail on their part. Being honest, I am afraid being and intervener is more work, and requires a lot more dedication and time than most can, or are willing to muster.

Met some delightfully wonderful people manning the table, including a very interesting person by the name of Paul, but more on that conversation in a later post as I am bushed. Congressman John Hall stopped by the booth to say hello...I was for the most part polite, but unless the air is cleared, I have some very serious reservations at this point where he is concerned. Think he means well, but he's not really a fighter, and we are not going to win this fight being mush balls. We need some testosterone in this movement if we are going to close Indian Point, need LOTS of people who are not afraid of some serious old school civil disobedience. Had two different people associated with Clearwater today tell me that my research abilities and passion for the fight are admired, but that quite a few people consider me a loose cannon...well, maybe we need a few more loose cannons.

One thing is really bothering me...waging a intervenor war with Entergy and the NRC, win, lose or draw is going to take money, and quite a bit of it. Unless you can back up your claims and allegations with experts, you, simply stated, are DEAD IN THE WATER. We have 21 Million people that live within 50 miles of Indian Point...if even 10 percent of them donated just ONE DOLLAR each, we would have a magnificent chance of giving the other side a serious run for their money...I have suggested a $1.00 donation campaign for the IPSEC committee working on a comprehensive Petition to Intervene, and I am also sharing that idea here, but with my own organizations name on the idea. If you are reading this, surely you can afford one dollar towards the legal and expert testimony costs involved in this fight? Surely you have friends that would toss in one dollar? Is one dollar to much to ask for, to much to give towards a battle that is our only hope to see Entergy's Indian Point reactors decommissioned? Riverkeeper sent out a letter to its faithful asking for a donation of $500 dollars...great if they can get the money, and use it effectively. Personally, I believe it is the average work-a-day citizens that can win this fight, our one dollar donations that can build a legal machine capable of taking on Goliath and winning the war...so how about it, if you are reading this, can you spare one dollar? Can you post this message to your groups, email it out to your friends?

Dead Baby Tour Friday Night Update...

First, for those who have been visiting looking for NEW STUFF, we thank you for stopping by, and do apologize, but this has been a very busy week for both the Indian Point Dead Baby World Tour, and our sister site, the Green Nuclear Butterfly. First, some important news on our forward progress on this environmental direct action campaign:

1. Cathy Garger's doll arrived (very early in the AM), and she is absolutely BEAUTIFUL, so a very special thanks to her. The porcelain face is almost regal, and think once we stain the outfit with a good soak in tea leaves to her a bit of an aged look, she's ready to go. The doll is so elegant, that it is going to be the doll shipped over to Elena in the Ukraine with the hope that she will agree to take it with her on her next motorcycle trip through Chernobyl's fallout zone.

2. Yesterday morning, Remy Chevalier of Rock The Reactors, Susan from Rockland Fuse and myself representing GNB had a very intense meeting with the NRC...more will be written on that Sunday in our GNB Blog. Afterward, Remy and I stopped by our favorite bookstore, The Bruised Apple and after explaining the goals of this site, they were beyond generous in donating a slew of delightfully worn and weary dolls.

3. Buried three dolls in the mulch in my backyard gardens in the hopes of giving them a bit of a different soiled look, and took some incredible photographs that I hope to load onto my hard drive, again on Sunday.

4. Our sub-committee working on a petition to intervene in the Entergy Relicensing process met last night, and things are progressing nicely on that front.

5. Tomorrow will be GONE all day, as we'll be collecting signatures at the Clearwater Festival on a Petition For Rule making that will be filed next week with the NRC.

So again, do apologize for the lack of new content this week, but as you can see, we have been very busy, and things are moving forward on numerous fronts. With any luck, can do some serious article posting on these two blogs on Sunday, and am working on one dealing with one of the important issues of the friendly atom cycle, spent uranium, a deplorable byproduct of the uranium fuel process, which is used in the making of armor piercing ammunition.

Let Indian Point Prove Evacuation Plan Works Under Terrorist Attack Scenario

In a previous post, I've pointed out that the NRC's DBT and the Force on Force Exercises that are derived from it, at best, are a cruel joke on host communities. Further, we all know that Indian Points evacuation plan WILL NOT WORK. In fact, Sam Collins of the NRC admitted as much in a recent public meeting when he stated to the audience that, in the case of a fast moving nuclear incident or terrorist event at the plant, evacuation would not work, and FEMA would have to rely upon sheltering in place.

In an article posted this week, GNB shared with our readers a slide from a Centers for Disease Control presentation that show people sheltered in their homes would only have a 40 percent level of protection from the radioactive matter released in a nuclear event. For those without a basement, or those living in say a trailer, such as the park just up Route 9, the level of protection if sheltered in place drops to and even more deplorable ten percent level.

I bring this up, as it is time for reactor licensees to prove their evacuation and/or emergency plans are workable, by proving it with a full blown emergency plan implementation exercise as a part of the relicensing process. Such a precedent for such an exercise is no longer without precedent, as a 4,000 member strong contingent held the first ever large scale terrorist attack nuke crisis emergency exercise in Marion, Indiana at a cost of $700,000. To put that financial cost into perspective, $700,000 is less than one days revenue stream for the Indian Point reactors...since they seek a 20 year license renewal, such a figure is NOTHING in the big picture for their revenues.

Thinking it is time to write up another Petition For Rule Making here.

Some 700 police and fire officials from Marion County, IN, will be part of the 4,000-strong contingent that will respond to a simulated nuclear disaster later this week at a cost of $700,000, Public Safety Director Earl Morgan said Monday, May 7. Military and public safety officials often practice their craft in simulated circumstances, but this will be the nation’s first-ever scenario depicting a situation in which a nuclear device is detonated in an American city by terrorists. The training exercise takes place Thursday through Sunday at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in Jennings County on the grounds of a complex of buildings constructed in the early 1900s. MILLSTONE 3 SHUT DOWN THIS WEEKEND WITH RADIOACTIVE LEAK

NRC ADMITS LYING TO THE PUBLIC

Millstone Unit 3 was shut down on Sunday January 28 and remained shut down on Monday with a radioactive leak allowing radiated coolant to escape from the reactor.

Workers assigned to investigate and repair the leaking valve were exposed to high levels of radiation. Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc., Millstone's Virginia-based owner, denied that any radiation leaked into the environment.

On April 17, 2005, steam cascaded from Millstone for a 10-hour period during a Dominion-declared Class II emergency involving valve failures, operator error, defective instrumentation and a "tin whisker."

Throughout the incident, Dominion denied radiation leakage to the environment. Subsequently, officials of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, under questioning by the Connecticut Coalition Against Millstone, admitted the steam contained unusual levels of radioactive krypton, which quickly decays to strontium-90, a deadly radioisotope which causes bone cancer and leukemia.

The NRC ADMITTED IT LIED to the public about radiation releases which occurred during the emergency to avoid a public panic.

The Connecticut Coalition Against Millstone will investigate this incident.

Radiation Alert: Beware You Who Live and Breathe Near Millstone!

Judi Friedman, who is well known and highly respected as the founder and director of PACE (People's Action for Clean Energy), carried out a science experiment on Thursday, January 18, 2007, with her RadAlert50, which measure alpha, gamma, beta and X-ray radiation. First she stood near Liberty Park and Main Street in Niantic (across Niantic Bay from Millstone) and turned on two RadAlerts simultaneously for 10 minutes. They gave readings of 12 and 13. These numbers are not unusual.

Judi then went over to Pleasure Beach in Waterford. This public beach is directly across Jordan Cove and directly downwind from Millstone. Judi held the two radiation monitors for 10 minutes simultaneously on the sandy beach. The readings? 20 and 23. These numbers equate with what Judi has recorded at the Nevada test Site, Kiev, Ukraine south of Chernobyl, and Kazakhistan, notorious for rogue nuclear activities.

What conclusion did Judi draw from her experiment? "Radiation levels were measurably higher downwind of Millstone at Pleasure Beach as compared with Niantic at the time the levels were measured," Judi said. The radiation routinely released by Millstone is deadly. It correlates with cancer clusters near Pleasure Beach and many other locations in Millstone's shadow.

Inside Security Breach At Entergy, Or Pro Nuke Nut Job?

WE are sharing a comment sent in on our "What If" article from this weekend, but doing it in the form of an article so that we can address some of the points that it raises. Secondly, we are sharing it for another reason...if the writer of the comment is putting out this information, and (a big if) the details about Indian Point Security are for real, this comment amounts to a very serious Security Breach at the Indian Point Plant...one of their own, or at least someone with some very serious inside information is posting it onto the Green Nuclear Butterfly Blog to refute the points made in Royce Penstinger's historical fiction piece. For ease of reading, Green Nuclear Butterfly's responses have been bolded and GREENED.

Thank You...I prefer to think of it as Historical Fiction. IF you follow many of the links embedded in the story, you'll see the events are not as far fetched as Indian Point and the NRC would like us to think they are.

I have some questions, though. Since it was blizzard conditions, how did the commando force get to the two jump-off spots? Didn't the coast guard cutter pick them up on radar, as they approached? Why didn't the Coast Guard's quadruple 50's Gatling guns hit them while on the rock face?

First, the work is fiction, but since we are on the subject, I could think of several ways. Further, not so sure that Coast Guard Cutter is docked in front of the plant 27/4 as your question infers. You, much like the NRC wants to give the licensee every assumed advantage that you can. IE, our troops, Indian Point's security staff would and could do everything right. Despite George Bush and the NRC sweeping the web clean, there is still plenty of anecdotal evidence to be found that would leave the average person shaking their head at the nuclear industry's ability to take care of a serious terrorist attack on the facilities. For instance, though they claim it is nothing, Entergy cannot even locate a simple leak in the spent fuel pool of Reactor 2...yet, you would have us believe their security staff would function perfectly. Perfectly like the control room personnel found sound asleep in one of the Entergy plants?

How did they go up the rock face in the snow? Did they use cross country skis? Didn't the cross country skis fuck them up at the jersey barriers?

Sure you would disagree, but this author believes a small force under cover of darkness could approach the facility unseen in kayaks from either direction on the Hudson...further, they could stage across the river to shorten distances. Again, you seem intent on convincing the public that Indian Point is not assailable. Until the NRC conducts a real force on force test at Nuclear Reactors based on some of the real life scenarios that could happen, their assertion that the sites are safe are nothing more than water cooler assurances.

Where did they practice?

Does it matter? Canada, Russia, Alaska to name just three locations that would provide adequate weather conditions for Arctic training, as well as areas of remoteness away from prying eyes. Again, does it matter where they trained? The hijackers that smashed planes into the World Trade Centers trained right here in the United States, right under the noses of those keeping and eye out for them. They did not target just one facility, they targets four planes, and four buildings....they succeeded in seven out of eight of their primary objectives.

If it was real blizzardy, kayaks would have obviously swamped. Power boats might have, too.

Nice try...I did not say it was BLIZZARDY! I stated the system had STALLED, that there was NOT ENOUGH WIND to blow the system north, or out to sea. Tipping motor boats? What, are you saying the NRC and Indian Point need to factor in a typhoon in helping them keep terrorists away from the nuclear reactors?

How come the dogs didn't start barking? Those fuckin dogs bark at turkeys, and deers, and even squirrels. Were they very small commandos, smaller than a turkey?

First, you would have us believe that carefully trained guard dogs are being left out on a bitterly cold winter night in the middle of a snow storm with eighteen inches of snow already on the ground? Do the ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUPS KNOW THIS? Secondly, dogs and other animals have a habit of HUNKERING down during a storm of this magnitude. Lastly, you discount the reality that dogs can be taken out with silent means of death.

How come the remote capacitive motion sensors on the hillside didn't pick them up? Deer set them off all the time.How did they get past the razor wire, without breaking the circuit? (I can understand video being whited out, but not the other systems).

There's a good one...remote capactitive motions sensors...even states the location of these things. Deers set them off all the time. Let me guess, in the middle of a snow storm like the one in the story, there is NO CHANCE that a brief trip of these censors wouldn't be discounted, written off as a deer? Though I do thank you for admitting one layer of Reactor Safety could be rendered ineffective with something as a snow storm.

How come the covert iron foxhole firing positions didn't set up a cross fire? How about the elevated firing towers? How did they get a vehicle past the 8 foot high 360 degree concrete wall? How come the resident national guard tanks didn't respond? How the fuck did they get into, and out of, all the confusing razor wire cul-de-sacs in the second fence line, or the third fence line, or the fourth?(they are ALL electrified).

I see, the FENCE at Indian Point is safe, secure and vital, but the fence at our Southern Border will not work? To use the adage oft quoted by the Pro-Illegal Alien factions, built a 25 foot fence, and someone will build a 26 foot tall ladder. Sure that these obstacles would not be enough to stop our own nation's special forces, but we are TOLD TO BELIEVE no other nation, or terrorist group has the ability to have similarly trained forces that they can insert into any given area in America?

Did the two nearby state trooper barracks fail to respond?

Here's a wake up call for you...in most snow storms, staff at Highway Patrol barracks are STRETCHED, most of the officers dealing with various accidents or motorist emergencies.

Did the Regular Army troops at camp smith get taken out beforehand? Their 12 tanks, and heavy weapons are only 6 minutes away, usually.

Like the way you snuck in that word USUALLY...nice try. Problem is, many of the reservists that do their time there go out to dinner and for a few drinks at various locations here in Peekskill. Those tanks might be six miles away, but they are not ready for RAPID DEPLOYMENT in the best weather, let alone a snow storm as described in the article.

And just how did these birds get a major meltdown to go out of the dome? didn't the dome hold it in, like at three mile island?

IAEA documents admit that they cannot come up with formula to completely discount either a hydrogen or steam explosion of a reactor core. Further, numerous documents are out there that admit the industry and NRC don't really understand brittling at a reactor, nor what the effects of this brittling would have in such a case as a hydrogen explosion inside the core. In fact, despite the NRC's wrongful generic re licensing hoodoo voodoo, one of the Commissioners at the NRC has admitted publicly that no two reactors are alike, each has their own unique set of risks.

Did they send another team to try to make a hole in the dome? How did they get near the dome, since the outside is totally inaccessible at the bottom, made so by the 345 KV high tension lines, the ones where the tree cutter got zapped 4 years ago.? If they went inside the dome to blow a hole in it, how did they find their way through the 5 successive airlocks into the radiation area? Who told them all the security codes? Did they blow the airlocks with C4? If they did , an automatic scram would have locked them in, AND shut the plant down.

I'm not the security expert, though you seem to desperately want our readers to believe you are. How many of us have watched controlled explosives take down buildings 50 times as large as the reactors at Indian Point in less than 30 seconds? Yet, you would have us believe that it's impossible for dedicated professions would not have the know how to overcome various obstacles in their desire to complete their mission. If terrorists have managed to get their hands on weapons to pierce the armor of tanks, surely they can find something that would open four or five doors? I'm sure they are not worried about making it all look pretty.

Didn't the isolation breakers at Buchanan switch yard operate to prevent the blackout spreading? Did your guys send a team over there first to lock those breakers shut?

Let's reverse this question...has the NRC factored this into their Force on Force exercises? In their mock attacks, have they sent a security detail over to guard these isolation breakers?

Were they old retired Con Ed guys, only Con Ed knows how to open or shut that stuff, or even where the controls are in the yard.

Oh, that's reassuring? Such important controls, and no one knows how to open or shut the stuff, or where it is located except old Con Ed guys?

Did they try to find the control room? Weren't they fooled by the ten dead end fake cul-de-sac mock control room passages, the ones nobody but the operators know about?

How reassuring...if no one but the operators know about these ten dead end fake cul-de-sac mock control room passages, HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM?

Didn't the automatic bulletproof stainless steel shutters and isolation blast doors operate to isolate the control room? Did the control room go on its emergency air system? Didn't the second team evacuate like they're supposed to, into the alternate safe shutdown bunker, so that even if a nuke worker was a commando, the main control room would have lost the ability to melt the place down anyway?

For starters, if someone had actually gotten this far into Indian Point, there are all kinds of ways to create problems that could result in core meltdown. For instance, one would assume, that those bent on mischief in this case, destruction of the reactor's core could attack the reactor at it's weakest point...say for instance the flow through pipe that drives the steam turbines? Not sure here, but I would think someone shutting down the flow pipe that allows steam/pressure to leave the reactor would cause a serious issue of concern? Further, find it interesting here, that in your entire rebuttal of my piece of fiction you STEERED AWAY from discussing the very vulnerable spent fuel pools. What, afraid to admit that a few armor piercing rounds fired into the bottom of said pools would create serious havoc in and of itself?

Other than those few obvious mistakes, the rest makes quite a story. Hangin out with ME, might make a writer out of you yet, Sherm! Just be honest with me. You lit a spliff before writing it, right?

Be nice if ME identified him/herself for our readers, for the NRC, for the plant. If any of what "ME" shared is true, Indian Point has a VERY SERIOUS SECURITY BREACH, and it would seem one on the inside.

If they went inside the dome to blow a hole in it, how did they find their way through the 5 successive airlocks into the radiation area? Who told them all the security codes? Did they blow the airlocks with C4? If they did , an automatic scram would have locked them in, AND shut the plant down. Didn't the isolation breakers at Buchanan switchyard operate to prevent the blackout spreading? Did your guys send a team over there first to lock those breakers shut? Were they old retired Con Ed guys, only Con Ed knows how to open or shut that stuff, or even where the controls are in the yard. Did they try to find the control room? Weren't they fooled by the ten dead end fake cul-de-sac mock control room passages, the ones nobody but the operators know about? Didn't the automatic bulletproof stainless steel shutters and isolation blast doors operate to isolate the control room? Did the control room go on its emergency air system? Didn't the second team evacuate like they're supposed to, into the alternate safe shudown bunker, so that even if a nuke worker was a commando, the main control room would have lost the ability to melt the place down anyway?
