Other Side of NIMBY, Fine In Your Back Yard (FIYBY)

Everyone knows about NIMBY. Corporate America, affluent neighborhoods and our larger society have used the concept of NIMBY for decades to drown out the cries of individuals and communities who object to environmentally dangerous and destructive projects being built in their towns, villages and rural communities. The short of it is simple...We tell the chosen community, "stop being so selfish, look at all the good this project will do for the larger society, the plant will generate taxes, or bring jobs and economic renewal to the area, or in the case of Nuclear Power, we need the energy." In short, people and communities not being asked to play host too environmentally dangerous projects, not being asked to accept the risks associated with certain enterprises are fine with someone else accepting those risks so they themselves can reap the benefits.

Perhaps it is time to explore the other side of the NIMBY COIN known as FIYBY (Fine In YOUR BACK YARD). How many Americans have joined committees, groups, and coalitions to keep a particular something out of their communities, yet are fine with that same project being built in someone else's backyard? Can you imagine the public outcry if Walmart announced plans to build one of their SUPER STORES in say Briarcliff, Pleasantville, or perhaps further upstate in the business district of Woodstock? Build the Walmart SOME WHERE ELSE, and those opposing the Walmart in their community, will shop there as long as it is built some place else, such as in your back yard, or mine. Talk about hypocrisy!

If the risks associated with a particular project are too much for your own community to accept, is it fair to expect another community to accept them in your stead? What if for instance Indian Point's 20 year license came with a caveat that during the 20 years of continued operation Entergy was required to site, license and build a replacement AP1000 reactor, or two, or three in White Plains, Scarsdale, or even on the island that is Manhattan? Such a caveat would see hundreds of buses streaming into Peekskill for the public relicensing hearings from points just south of us. Big Guns and Big Money would be out in full force to oppose such a caveat!

Our community has played host to the Indian Point reactors for almost 40 years. Isn't it time another community took a turn at playing host to the risks of supplying power to the masses through nuclear power generation? If you oppose a project in your own back yard, shouldn't you be helping to oppose its placement in MY BACK YARD? Is it fair to ask another to face and accept risks you are not willing to accept for yourselves, your families, your children? If a prison or halfway house is fine for my community, should not it be fine for yours? If the DOE wants to build a National High Level Radioactive Waste Storage Facility (Yucca Mountain) in Nevada's community, why is such a facility wrong for yours?

The whole governmental regulatory process is based on risk verse benefit analysis. The problem with this, is the risk IS NEVER SHARED EQUALLY AMONG ALL MEMBERS OF SOCIETY...someone, or some community is deemed potentially expendable in the name of the greater societal good or benefit to be gained. The Nuclear Industry wants the masses to believe nuclear energy is safe, and without substantial risks...then why do we need the Price Anderson Act to limit their financial liability in the case of a significant incident. If citizens playing host to a reactor face losing everything in the case of a major accident, should not the NRC's licensees face the exact same financial risks? If nuclear reactors are so safe, why have their owners placed each one in a LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) to protect the parent company's financial assets?

Statistics show us that America's nuclear reactors account for 20 percent of electricity generated nationwide. Shared risk and/or sacrifice...ask yourselves a question here. Would you rather A) play host to a nuclear reactor in your own back yard, or B) see the larger society share in the joint sacrifice of cutting back consumption by 20 percent so that these 103 aging relics could be decommissioned? There is the rub isn't it? Most think it is fair for some community other than theirs to accept risks so they can enjoy the benefits free of any consequences.

What are each of you willing to sacrifice for the greater good of society? What plan to mitigate Global Warming can we implement that spreads the burden out fairly amoung all of us? For far too long, we as a nation, as a world have traveled down the pathway of convenience and over consumption of the Earth's resources, and the time is fast approaching where the bill is due and payable upon demand, and though we accept that looming reality, we expect someone else, anyone else to pay the bill, expect them, not us to make the sacrifice. Al Gore and his, "Inconvenient Truth" are a perfect example of this wrong thinking mentality...he's out there sounding the alarm, but owns THREE HOMES, and flies around the globe in private jets. Where is his own sacrifice for the greater societal good?

NIMBY cannot and does not exist without FIYBY, and we as a world cannot solve Global Warming with a societal paradigm thats accepts Global Warming as a reality, while thinking everyone else should accept the risks in searching for solutions, expects others to make the sacrifices...it is all for one, and one for all, or we are doomed to failure in our quest, though it will be our children's children who will pay the ultimate price. The way to finding answer means less consumption, rather than finding ways to continue it unchecked. Nuclear Energy is not Green, and is not the answer to Global Warming, and expecting other communities to continue hosting these dangerous beasts so you can continue to consume is just wrong.

SOME SUGGESTIONS TO REIN IN CONSUMPTION, AND THUS REDUCE GLOBAL WARMING

1. Outlaw all non commercial vehicles that get less than 35 MPG on the highway based on provable studies.

2. Place a large national sin tax on any family (traditional and non-traditional) that gives birth to more than two children, on a per head basis. FACT...unless we bring the human population growth under control, no solution to Global Warming is workable.

3. Eliminate McMansions by placing a yearly obscenity tax on homes above a certain agreed square footage per occupant basis. Does a family of four really need an 8500 square foot abode?

4. One family, one car.

5. Publicly funded projects to solarize every home in America. We build roads, schools and hospitals with public money...why not solarize communities through similar public works programs.

6. Get back to neighborhood shopping, and do away with the LARGE BOX SHOPPING EXPERIENCE. How many gallons of gasoline are burned daily to run out for a loaf of bread, and a gallon of milk? How many workers could walk to work daily instead of driving if most retail sales were done in the local community where they lived?

7. Home Energy Allotments...if you go beyond your usage allotments, you pay a far higher price for the additional energy consumption.

8. Major Green Roof projects implemented in every American city to mitigate the concrete footprint.
9. Community Gardens...the time for fenced in back yards with a pool and a hot tub in every one needs to come to and end. Lets create a new paradigm of shared community resources.

White Nuclear Snowflake's Theory On Earth's Core A Bit Whacked

Imitation is the highest form of flattery, so I was pleased when Indian Point/Entergy set one of their minions to the task of countering the Green Nuclear Butterfly blog with one of their own which mimics ours, and is known as the White Nuclear Snowflake. I can always tell when my articles are striking a nerve, as the blog's author (Druther John), in some drug induced haze, starts putting up rubbish in an attempt to discredit our message and facts...even funnier, in a feeble attempt to steal our traffic flow, they even steal our blog name as one their TAGS...truly pathetic there John Boy.

Apparently, we have been stepping on some big toes this week over at Entergy's Indian Point, as they have been busy on their blog...problem is, their supposed science is a bit fuzzy, and in some ways could be used as the perfect argument against widespread use of nuclear energy. In his latest post, Truther John, painting with bold strokes makes the following argument for nuclear:
Without the uranium's warming power, life would probably not have arisen on this planet, and without the uranium, life certainly would not continue, as the oceans would freeze, and earth would be an ice ball.

Now, we all know that uranium quantities on/in the earth are limited...perfect proof of this is the ever growing price of uranium on the spot market. Further, if you study the DOE website, you can find plans to mine uranium out of our oceans with large sea going mining operations as world supplies grow ever smaller.

Following Druther John's line of argument to its natural conclusion would see a world devoid of uranium dying a slow and violent death as all life forms freeze to death. Stay off the peyote buttons there Grasshopper.

Hilary On Indian Point and Nuclear-Forked Tongued Conniving Bitch!

When I saw that Hilary Clinton had NO CO-SIGNERS for her 2006 bill calling for an ISA at Indian Point, I began having serious doubts about her, and her sincerity in helping us close down these aging and deadly reactors, and specifically Indian Point. Then, I went through the FEC records, and found she'd been taking money from Entergy, and the nuclear industry, and gave little credence to her re-introduction of the same legislation this year. Then, while over on the arch enemies web site (NEI-Nuclear Energy Institute), found the video below shot in South Carolina, and realized she's nothing more than a two faced, forked tongued lying bitch.

For all you that will write me nasty notes, don't bother...I'm not the first person to call Hillary a bitch, and will not be the last. Besides, in her case the shoe fits perfectly...Hilliary is all about herself, and will do and say anything to climb her way to the top of the garbage heap that is Washington, DC.

Medical Update on Royce

Just returned from my doctor, and the news on my broken arm was not what I was hoping for. Tired of one finger typing with my left hand, so was really looking forward to being done with the whole cast routine, but it's just not to be.
The bone was/is not healing properly. Tomorrow morning I have to go for and MRI at the Hudson Valley Hospital. It's looking like surgery and a metal plate, and then into a cast for 6-8 weeks before I can even begin my physical therapy. NOT GREAT NEWS.
No biking, no getting behind the wheel of my sports car, and ever slow typing for another two months...can't even get my pool up and running with one hand. Giving our readers this update, as surgery may see me unable to post anything for a few days to a week...sure that will be welcome news to Entergy, and the folks at Indian Point.
Anyway, keep the faith and keep moving forward.

Reactors, Indian Point...Uranium The Devil's Death Stone

Uranium, the devil's death stone, and the road to hell is paved with good intentions as scientists set aside the age of the Peaceful Atom, and attempt instead to sell us their concept of nuclear as the safe, vital, secure Green Energy that will save us from Global Warming, erectile dysfunction, and anal warts. Everyone wants to be part of a dream (even a bad one) and nuclear energy shills and baton twirlers like Patrick Moore or advertising giant Burson-Marsteller knowing if you repeat a lie long enough people will begin to believe, have been beating their storm drums in repetition. The NEI, DOE, NRC and such nuclear industry giants as Entergy and Exelon have woven the words of their lies into our collective societal soul, seeking a way to steal away our hearts for the nuclear beast, all too aware of the fact we are needed if the demon spawn of a Nuclear Renaissance is to be given life, given the chance to spread its wing and bring total darkness to our world.

Fortunately, like the magician's assistant in Walt Disney's "Fantasia" or Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz", some of us have pulled away the dark velvet curtain, have seen the truth behind the lies that are the nuclear industry. Peeking over the cliff into the black abyss of hell a few of us have spied Luther's Army out on the practice fields as they march in goose step to the false chant of, "No CO 2's, Nuclear Is our Birth Mother, bring us the Hydrogen Economy." George Bush, the Commander in Chief of the Nuclear 2010 Initiative and his field generals, such as the Shaw Group's Jim Bernhard observe from a black alabaster parade stand, occasionally whispering among themselves, or perhaps fine tuning their GNEP global plan for a One World Nuclear Order, with them at its helm. All praise to the AP1000.

Creeping stealthily backwards away from the edge, careful not to dislodge a pebble, sending it cascading down into their midst we wipe our tears away knowing the alarm must be rung, hoping that some will hear our voices in the wilderness against overwhelming odds. As if thrown into an epic fantasy adventure (think Robert Jordan, and "The Dragon Reborn"), we are being pushed into a fight with the Dark Lord (Neil Sheehan) and the Dark Forces of the NRC as they play the part of the Guardians out to protect the aging, brittling reactors at all costs, keep them operating long enough to bring the Nuclear Industry back from the world of the dead. They are the Guardians of Hell's Inferno as GE, Westinghouse, DOE, Entergy-Shaw and other worshippers of the Death Stone struggle with their task of birthing the new devil child, working tirelessly to bring the Nuclear Renaissance to life.

Ours, like most great epics starts out with a seemingly simple task that is far more difficult than it would at first appear to be. We must first go to the Ancients, convincing host communities (Briarcliff, Pleasantville, Sleepy Hollow, even Brattleboro up in Vermont) to join our cause along the way. Old armies of the cause (such as IPSEC, Clearwater, Riverkeeper, Greenpeace and CAN) need to accept a difficult truth, that their plowshares again must be hammered into swords, their silken garbs tucked away in a chest, exchanged for the body armor of war. Couriers and carrier eagles need to be sent out far and wide to warn the people in exotic places such as the Palisades in far off Michigan and Diablo Canyon which sits along this land's Western shores. However, even this will not be enough without the power of the ancients, our quest doomed to fail without Pete Seeger's wishsong, and Bonnie Raitt's heart cleansing words reaching out to touch the souls of the masses. We need a Chevalier sent in search of John Hall, it is whispered he still speaks with the ancients, could convince them once again to come out of hiding, and lend us their weapon of song.

Life, love and death all tangled up in blue, a nuclear mistress trying to seduce me and you as we remember our heroes and wish for a new World Dylan riding into the story, singing songs about the Hudson River as he speaks truth to you and me, belting out the words, " Decommissioning is the only way to go, our salvation from the Indian Point beasts. Where have the Byrd's gone, and please Mister Tambourine Man, play a song for me, in the jingle jangle morning. I'll come followin' you as I dodge the Radioactive Fallout with no place to go, my flesh stripped to the bone, and my toes too numb to feel...please Mister Tambourine Man cast your spell on me before I drift off into a forever radioactive nightmare disguised as my dream.

Like funeral pyres burning in a starless night, 103 aging reactors, drawing their fuel from the great uranium stone, belching their poisons into our atmosphere as cartoon circus barkers shout out the nuclear industry's lies to any ear they can reach. "Nuclear is vital, safe and secure, the birth mother of the coming Hydrogen Economy...can I have a Praise Jesus, and will someone pass the Congressional Collection plate of love, as we need your money to build our beasts of burden that will further enslave the world, see all of you owned by your blind love of our machines of convenience."

A lone voice from the gathered throng speaks out, " What about the leaking spent fuel pools, and the strontium 90, the tritium, all finding their way into the Hudson, killing the fish, bringing cancer to our land and into our homes?"

"A heretic, a lunatic from the No Nuke fringe" shouts the barker, "He knows not what he speaks, cannot be trusted. Ignore him I say, come into the nuclear circle and we'll protect you from Global Warming, we are life, we are the way."

Another day, another town with another hooded stranger in the crowd, "What about the susceptibility of the spent fuel pools to a terrorist attack, and what should happen if a plane flies in close to the ground, plowing into the reactor, spreading a fire in its wake as buildings come crashing down around us, what then I ask you? 9/11 was real, the Towers never had a chance, and now you want us to ignore that truth?

"IGNORE HIM, HE'S A FOOL AND A CLOWN, nuclear is your friend. Step into the circle, we will protect you from Global Warming, and give you the Hydrogen Economy too."

Try as one might, it is impossible to serve two masters, two Gods, one cannot be a world saving, environmentally friendly Green Folk and at the same time buy into the lie of vital, safe, secure Green Nuclear energy. Heroes are not born, but instead have greatness and duty thrust upon them, and the way forward into a better tomorrow always requires great sacrifices from the masses, and finding the solutions to Global Warming will occur in this same tried and true fashion. A Nuclear Renaissance, nuclear energy as the savior from our sins is the devil's placebo for the masses born in the pits of a nuclear fusion hell. Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it, so let us not forget Hiroshima which brought on the era of the peaceful atom. Hold close the memory of those who died at Chernobyl, and those who are dying slow painful deaths now from the cancers brought on by Three Mile Island. It is no accident that GNEP (Global Nuclear Energy Program) is being brought to us compliments of the DOE, which can also stand for Death On Earth.

Great moments of social awareness and societal change were not brought about by the money changers, nor the power brokers in government. Proclaimations and laws look pretty on paper, and sound self important when read aloud, but down through the annuals of time it has been the people, you and me and the neighbor down the street who have breathed life into movements, and effected great social changes. Florence Nightingale walked away from a life of leisure and gave birth to modern day nursing. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony drove the Sufferage Movement, and saw women win the right to vote. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat and the civil rights movement was on its way. Martin Luther King had a dream, and a few college students started an anti war movement that ended the Vietnam War.

We all know that Global Warming is real, the polar ice caps melting away, and a few selfish men selling snake oil are trying to convince us that Nuclear Energy is the solution, the easy way to fix the wrongs and make everything right again. We can buy into the lie and catch the next train out of town. Or, we can take a stand here and now, draw the proverbial line in the sand. Host communities all over America agreed almost 40 years ago to accept reactors for a time period of 40 years. We have done our duty to God and Country, yet now we are being told its not enough, that we have no choice but to play host for another 20 years, 40 if the indutry gets its way. The license renewal process is not about evaluation and negotiation, but dictatorship by committee with a gun being held to our collective heads. Our politicians will not save us, they were bought and sold long before we foolishly gave them our vote...we have ourselves and nothing more if we are to win this fight and shut Indian Point's aging reactors down.

Pete Seeger Nobel Peace Prize Campaign

From Ron Miles, Brainerd, MN.

Pete Seeger Nobel Peace Prize campaign

We have mounted a campaign for a grassroots movement to persuade the American Friends Service Committee to nominate Pete for the Nobel Peace Prize. We have posted a petition on a site named petitionthem.com. The aim is to show grassroots support to the American Friends Service Committee to nominate Pete Seeger for the Nobel Peace Prize.

We know there are many people interested in adding support. We're asking everyone to circulate the petition information to at least 5 other people asking them to notify 5-10 other people. To read about and sign the petition go to:
www.petitionthem.com/default.asp?sect=detail&pet=3774

If that doesn't work just go to www.petitionthem.com ... the petition is on the home page. We hope that you can help circulate this petition.

Pete Seeger is a crusader for Peace and Social Justice and has been over the course of his 87 year lifetime. As a prominent musician his songs and performance style have worked to engage other people, particularly the youth, in causes to end the Vietnam war, ban nuclear weapons, work for international solidarity, and ecological responsibility. It is time that cultural work receives the recognition that the arts have great influence and global reach, that it is not only a medium of entertainment but of education, compassion and fraternity. There is no more quintessential cultural worker than Pete Seeger.

Of course Pete has never been alone in this work. He is the first to affirm that. But his unique sense of purpose, decency, and ability, and the support of, his wife Toshi, and his family gave him the opportunity to be all that he could be. He is a role model and a guiding spirit; we can be influential in getting him nominated for the honor he deserves.

Pete has supported almost every peace organization in the United States, indeed internationally, through fundraising concerts, endorsement of activities, and personal participation. The justification for this acknowledgment is in the very fabric of progressive culture. Every one of us can think of myriad reasons why our consciousness of the issues of world peace, social justice and cultural sensitivity, plus the performance skills to involve other people, had something to do with Pete. The extended circle of singers, folk and folksy, topical, political, and sentimental songwriters, in someway owes a debt to Pete Seeger.

As cultural workers we know the power of the arts, we also know how difficult it is to gain recognition for cultural creation. Pete Seeger has gained recognition without compromise! Carl Sandburg called Seeger "the living embodiment of America's traditions...." When Pete was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 they said, “Pete Seeger’s contribution to folk music, both in terms of its revival and survival, cannot be overstated.”
Pete was also honored by the Kennedy Center with its Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. In 2001 they again paid tribute to Pete Seeger with a cross generational presentation. The program featured friends and family including Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of Pete Seeger, and Sarah Lee Guthrie, granddaughter of Woody Guthrie." They described Pete as being, "Instrumental in popularizing the indigenous American song, his own compositions - among them 'If I Had a Hammer,' 'We Shall Overcome,' and 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone' (and 'The Big Muddy’) have served as anthems for an entire generation.

It is important to honor our forbears; we all stand on Pete Seeger's shoulders in a manner of speaking. We have an opportunity to acknowledge him a "father" of a cultural, social, and political movement, which enriched us all and in which we all share, as much as we share our paternal DNA.

Entergy Business Expo Demo Cancelled, on account of burn out!

Well, it looks like Entergy dodged a bullet this morning... Sherwood and I decided to bow out of our commitment to attend the Entergy sponsored 2007 Business Expo tomorrow.

There are a few reasons for this... The main one being Sherwood is in great pain from his broken arm... he explained something about pinched nerve endings hurting real bad... I empathize.

The other is I live in Weston, CT as many of you know, and the trek back and forth from Peekskill has taken its toll on my resource. Since there hasn't been any real visible interest from anti-nuclear residents in Peekskill to come out in support of Sherwood and I for this action, I felt we did what we could. It's now up to the people of surrounding communities to take matters in their own hands. Time to realize you're brow beaten and pick up your pitch forks guys! Honestly!

If you are not able to do this, if the good people of Rockland and Westchester county, do not see the necessity to attend a Business Expo sponsored by Entergy to voice their opposition to the unwanted business Entergy brings to their community, I am at a loss as to what more I can do. Entergy wins by default, you are letting them win... no Independent Safety Assessment will shut down this plant... it's just a shell game to them.

So, my schedule has suddenly gotten extremely busy, with three separate PR events I have committed helping around the country, which stand to do more long term to benefit our fight to shut down Indian Point than protesting this little business expo could if nobody shows up for it.

Since everybody seems to be too busy to come out for this, well so am I.

There are other things Sherwood and I are planning that will have much more impact and consequence. Loose lips sink ships. We're not giving up, just taking a breather, recharging our batteries. We've been at this none stop for nearly three months, with little or no support from the peanut gallery, criticism from all sides for our tactics... while behind the scenes, off the record, people come up to say keep up the good work. It's wonderful, but where's the $$$ you know? Sherwood and I are not made of cash.

There comes a time when you either put up or shut up. So if all the anti-nuclear funds goes to organizations who clock in 9 to 5 rather than see this as a call to arms... you do the math... where would your money be better spent? With us constantly doing research, raising hell, driving nails in... or the same old organizations playing it safe, doing business as usual? Organizations who at the flip of a hat, if they really wanted to, could put a hundred people or more at any one place to protest the Entergy NorthEast LLC.

Bottom line, Robert Kennedy Jr. is just a big fat pussy!

Anyone who had intended to attend, please don't let this sudden running out of steam by your two unpaid hired guns discourage you from doing something on your own... We in fact would very much like to get a report from the Expo. We'll post it here.

NEI/Nuclear Industry Have Another PRO NUKE ATTACK ORGANIZATION IN WATER

Never has the funding discrepancy been more noticeable than right now, as the Nuclear Industries to force a Nuclear Renaissance down the world's collective throat. First, we had to deal with the traitors Christine Todd Whitman, and Patrick Moore of Greenpeace shame as they used their 501 3C non-profit attack boat to go after anti-nuke groups, especially in the Northeast, and specifically, Vermont where Entergy's failing Vermont Yankee is being wrongfully rubber stamped through the relicensing process.

Meet the new bastard child of the NEI attack fleet of 501 3C's:

Here is a taste of their ribald lies:

The Future of Nuclear is NOW!

Nuclear powers 1 in 5 homes and businesses in the U.S. 74% of the clean electricity produced in the U.S. comes from nuclear power plants. U.S. nuclear plants prevent the discharge of 697 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year--nearly as much carbon dioxide as is released from all U.S. passenger cars combined. Operating costs for nuclear power are the lowest of any generating source except hydropower.

Have you heard all this good news? If you’ve navigated to this site, chances are that you have. But do your friends and neighbors know? Have you told your elected representatives? While 70% of Americans support the use of nuclear power only 31% believe that the majority of the people in their community agree with them! So we need to get out there and tell our stories. At the local, state, and federal levels there is a flurry of activity related to used fuel management, relicensing existing plants, and building new ones. And while there is more enthusiasm than we have seen in years, there is still work to be done. Rampant misconceptions about nuclear power continue to abound and our friends, neighbors, regulators, and elected officials need to hear from us. Nuclear’s opponents won’t be sitting idly by and neither should we. Let’s put our energy in action!

Flashback 1984...UFOs Over Indian Point!!!

Billy Booth of About writes:
On March 26, 1983, an article about the sightings appeared on the front page of the Westchester-Rockland Daily Item. They received over 300 calls from individuals who had seen the strange V-shaped lights on the night of March 24, 1983 alone.
Some of the witnesses got a close enough look to say that the craft was large enough to be a "flying city."All in all, about 5,000 reports were made during a period of five years, from 1982 through 1986.

A report made from guards at the Indian Point Nuclear Plant would be one of the most dramatic. The gigantic UFO was seen hovering over the plant for periods of time, and moved as close as 30 feet from the reactor.
Security supervisors even once considered ordering in planes to have it shot down. The object over Indian Point was described by some of the guards as 1,000 feet long.
Philip J. Imbrogno in Incident At Indian Point wrote:
In-depth report on the very dramatic sighting of a UFO by New York State Power Authority Police officers stationed at the Indian Point Nuclear reactor in Buchanan, New York. The guards at the Indian point complex had a close encounter with a UFO that has been appearing in the Hudson Valley area of New York for the past six years.
The interview took place on September 12, 1984 in Peekskill, New York at a local restaurant, at about 10:00pm. With me during the interview was UFO researcher Fred Dennis, Fairfield Connecticut police Lt. George Lesnick and Citizens Against UFO Secrecy (CAUS) attorney Peter Gersten. Six of the guards showed up and because of the lateness of the hour, we were only able to talk in depth with three at that time.
The interview can be read in its entirety on the EndSecrecy list.

Nevada Study: At-Reactor Storage Less Costly Than Building Yucca Dump

2/26/2007
Nevada state officials have released a report concluding that the cost of building the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository “vastly exceeds” the cost of leaving radioactive waste at reactor sites. The report, commissioned by Nevada officials who oppose the Yucca project being built in their state, challenges the federal government’s cost estimate for the high-level radioactive waste dump and concludes that the repository would actually cost billions of dollars more than dry-cask storage at existing reactors.

Politics plays pivitol role in nuclear energy
2/12/2007

Politics will play a pivotoal role in nuclear energy in coming months, with federal lawmakers sparring over new U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission appointments, Republicans seeking to strip the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of its powers and presidential candidates weighing in on the merits of the proposed Yucca Mountain repository. The maneuvering comes as the federal government anticipates a rash of applications for reactor construction, as operators begin taking advantage of lucrative federal subsidies. And it comes as the federal government begins major investments in President Bush’s Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP).

Bush Budget Would Hike GNEP, Offers Less for Yucca Mountain
2/12/2007

Undaunted by the first Democrat-controlled Congress of his tenure, President Bush this month unveiled a 2008 budget proposal rife with ambitious goals for the nation’s nuclear power industry. Promoting energy sources that might wean the nation from its reliance on fossil fuels proves to be a key component of the president’s spending blueprint for fiscal 2008, which begins Oct. 1. Bush is asking Congress to approve a $24.3 billion budget for the U.S. Energy Department, including significant investments in new energy sources, scientific research, radioactive-waste cleanup and strengthening the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile while promoting global non-proliferation.

GNEP Technologies: The Future or Pure Folly?
1/26/2007

An audioconference hosted last week by Capitol Press LLC spotlighted key proponents and detractors of President Bush’s Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP), with supporters arguing that now is the time to begin developing technology for the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel, and foes countering that it will be too costly and time-consuming to attract private investors.

Westchester County One Nuclear Fire Away From Indian Point Holocaust?

Indian Point Nuclear Plant Fire Violations ?
Too Dangerous to Allow Endless Delay
A FACT SHEET BY Green Nuclear Butterfly-reprint allowed with source credit.

The Indian Point Nuclear Plant that is mismanaged and poorly run by Entergy has a increased risk of a radiation disaster by potentially/probably being in violation of federal fire safety regulations for decades.

1. Fire is a leading risk factor for meltdown at US nuclear plants (according to federal studies)

Fire or electrical shorts can cause operators to lose control of the reactor or safety systems.
The Indian Point reactors have a large number of faulty fire barriers and inadequate distances between vital electric cables.
Fire could cause overheating of the reactor fuel, with a resultant major release of radioactivity that could KILL THOUSANDS.
2. Are Indian Point and Entergy relying on “compensatory” measures that were rejected by NRC.

The “compensatory” measures require operators to quickly enter plant and perform complex procedures required to manually operate safety systems during emergencies.
Does Indian Point “compensate” with fire patrols intended to be used only for weeks, not years.
3. Compensatory measures have never been approved – or tested for feasibility.

The nuclear industry is now fighting NRC over how to test the operator manual actions: more delay.
4. Potential Indian Point fire violations are heightened by new ruling on plant security.
The NRC ruled that instead of defending against aircraft or substantial teams of ground attackers, US nuclear plant owners can rely on measures that control fires and explosions. Yet we wonder why we stakeholders are not allowed to know the real risks we face in playing hosts to failing reactors like Indian Point.
Numerous federal studies show us that “allegedly robust nuclear plant structures are extremely vulnerable to fires from within,” (Lochbaum 2/1/07) and that fires fed by thousands of gallons of jet fuel could lead to catastrophic releases. Some of the studies indicate a high likelihood of meltdown.
5. Serious Fires have occurred at Harris and other nuclear plants, so what makes Indian Point immune?

There have been four “emergency declared” alerts at US plants since October due to electrical fires.
A major electrical fire at Harris in 1989 required 30 firefighters and led to a weeks-long plant outage.
A 1975 severe fire and near-meltdown at Browns Ferry led to the rules that many nuclear reactors are now disobeying with the NRC's full blessings.
6. The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission is allowing Entergy and other reactor licensees to violate fire regulations under the agency’s “Enforcement Discretion” authority.
NRC plans to let its reactor licensees study fire vulnerabilities for many more years.
Yet rules allowing Enforcement Discretion for fire protection are set to expire within weeks.“Entergy's Indian Point and Vermont Yankee nuclear reactors are not safe today. A fire tomorrow or the next day would be like a nuclear Katrina times 100:
People in New York and Vermont would pay a high price, some the ultimate price if there is a fire, but the rest of the U.S. would benefit if Congress forces the NRC to enforce its own fire protection rules.”
“Since the NRC and industry cannot agree on how to test whether operators could run through the plant and manually operate multiple safety systems to prevent a meltdown, how can we the public bank on those measures as a substitute for compliance?

Nuclear, Entergy-The Shaw Skank Deception

Nuclear is in the news in a BIG WAY these days, and unless you live under a rock you are aware of the nuclear industry's dreams of a Nuclear Renaissance here in America. So, when you find a man (Jim Bernhard) who was the head of the Democratic Party in Louisiana, yet had donated $100,000 to George Bush's Inaugural Celebration, it grabs your attention. When that man's company, The Shaw Group, got the contract with the US Postal Service to clean up after the anthrax scare, and after Hurricane Katrina gets hundreds of millions, including $200 million in no bid contracts, I'm going to start Googling.

When my Googling exposes a man trying to buy his credentials as a real player in the nuclear industry, I start getting nervous. When said man makes deals with GE, Westinghouse, and forms a 50/50 partnership with Entergy (second largest nuclear player in America) I am thinking alarms, bells and whistles all going off at once. Then when further investigation shows me that Entergy's vice president is on the board of NEI (Nuclear Energy Institute-lobbying arm of the nuclear industry), I want Dan Rather or 60 Minutes on the phone. Couple all this with Shaw Group's government contracts with both the military (in Iraq) and the DOE, mix it with the fact that Jeb Bush as a member in good standing in CASEnergy (fully funded by NEI) and I'm thinking a brewing Enron on the horizon...it seems to be a more carefully orchestrated Hunt Brothers scenario when they tried to corner the silver market. However, in this case we have the Bayou Boys (Entergy and Shaw Group Inc.) wanting to own the lion's share of the nuclear renaissance, and have the ability to hold America hostage in the bargain.

George W. Bush: Nuclear President
The "renaissance" also now comes with what Mariotte says "may be the most ardently pro-nuclear power presidency in U.S. history." The Bush administrations stance on nuclear power is aggressive and minimizes the dangers of atomic technology.
As Bushs Secretary of Treasury Paul ONeill has told The Wall Street Journal,
"If you set aside Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, the safety record of nuclear is really is good."

The administration struck a close working relationship with the nuclear industry well before taking office. Its energy "transition" advisors included:

1. Joseph Colvin, president of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI), the lead nuclear industry-funded trade group.

2. J. Bennett Johnston who as a senator was a leading pro-nuclear power figure in Congress and now runs a consulting firm that assists the nuclear industry.

3. Thomas Kuhn, president of the Edison Electric Institute and former head of the American Nuclear Energy Council, forerunner of the NEI, and a friend of Bush going back to their days at Yale.
4. Representatives of four U.S. utilities involved with nuclear power.

Two weeks after being sworn in, Bush set up a "National Energy Policy Development Group" and appointed Vice President Dick Cheney as its chairman. Its members included ONeill and Andrew Lundquist, who also coordinated the energy "transition" team was named executive director.
If you were looking to find a scandal of this magnitude, you'd imagine a firm getting hundreds of millions of dollars in government contracts all over the world after making generous donations to various politicians on both sides of the isle, including $100,000 towards George Bush's Inaugural celebration. We have that in spades. Imagine this company getting contacts with the US EPA, NASA, the Pentagon, Army Corp of Engineers, and even the US Postal Service to clean up after the Anthrax scare! No, we are not talking Haliburton here, but looking into this company you realize they are just as bad, if not worse. Where is a special federal prosecutor looking into the business dealings of the Shaw Group, and Jim Bernhard's joint collaboration (with Entergy) to own a major portion of the nuclear industry's dream about nuclear renaissance? Just how involved in this scam are the Bush brothers, and is it true that Entergy/Shaw sat in on the Energy Policy meetings with Dick Cheney?

To understand this story, one first has to look at the founder of the Shaw Group, examine its founder, try to figure out what makes Jim Bernhard tick. A read of the information let out to the press paints an image of a man that Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan and even Pippi Longstockings would be envious of. A barrel chested man who worked his way up from digging trenches to become a titan of industry who now heads a fortune 500 company. After getting his bachelors degree from Louisiana State University, he bounced around working for various pipe fitters before striking off on his own with a couple of his college buddies. NOT EXACTLY.

First, it appears this man led a pampered childhood in many ways, the proverbial silver spoon stuck up his ego driven ass. His family owns Bernhard Mechanical Contractors which was started in 1919 by Jim's Grandfather, and the multimillion dollar firm is now run by Jim's brothers. It's easy to picture him as the good looking spoiled rich kid that had life handed to him on a platinum platter. If he saw something he wanted, he took it, and if that failed, Daddy probably went out and bought it for him...this to some degree is born out in the way Jim Bernhard has gone after acquisitions for his once small pipe fitting company, The Shaw Group.

When his inside government sources led him to believe there would be a Nuclear Renaissance, it appears he leveraged the Shaw Group to the hilt and went into the Federal Bankruptcy Court to buy himself and his company nuclear credentials that are not really his, and is using them to run around the world like a paper tiger making deals...problem is, can the building of nuclear reactors be trusted to a newbie in the field, and more importantly will his political cronies in Washington keep the government contracts flowing in long enough for his gamble with other people's money to pay off, or will his scheme backfire leaving America's small investors holding the bag in yet another Enron Pyramid scheme?

Jim Bernhard seems to have had an uncanny ability to land VERY LARGE government contracts from the start back in the mid eighties when the Shaw Group was first started. Once you take a look at the family business, Bernhard Mechanical Contracting, you see where the ability and CONNECTIONS come from. Bernhard Mechanical Contracting has been getting rich off of the taxpayers money for decades now.

A cursory look at records easily found online show for instance tens of millions of dollars flowing into the Bernhard till just from work done in their end of building prisons, and even some major work on a Federal Court House. Looking at the list of Bernhard projects, it's very obvious the family business has some very serious connections at all levels government, and perhaps had no problems in using them to win favor. In short, Jim Bernhard seems to have mentored with the best, grew up from chilhood learning and playing the game. So much for the tears in our eyes story about a young man working his way up from the bottom, but then if you listen to Donald Trump or Ted Turner, they did it all on their own as well.
This whole thing reminds me of the Iraq Press Scandal and the Lincoln Group back a few years ago. A young man from out of nowhere suddenly seems to know every one, and is winning Government Bids worth hundreds of millions, and forming new partnerships in an on time delivery basis. This blogger was not able to get the whole truth on the man (Christian Bailey)behind the Lincoln Group, and I still think he has ties into the CIA's black budget (covert)...it's the only way to explain the Englishman's convenient ties to George Bush and Condi Rice, and his incredible timing in placing himself and his company in Iraq, seemingly before our troops arrived. Hopefully, Jim Bernhard's footprints and timelines will give us more clues about his hidden truths, and the dark unbelly of The Shaw Group's uncanny abilities. Lets do some exploring of the man's timeline, and you the reader can make up your own mind.

1987-Jim Bernhard with two of his buddies start their business as the proverbial three musketeers, and the company gets it name from their FIRST Acquisition, the BF Shaw company out of South Carolina. Where did these three upstarts get the money to take over a large sized company like this. Further, the BF Shaw company's HORRID environmental record betrays portrayal of the Shaw Group as a Clean, Green environmentally concerned citizen. It has been suggested by some, that Shaw Connex is contributing to GREATLY increased cancer risks in Virginia...does Jim Bernhard care, and is so what is the Shaw Group doing to clean up its act?

1993-The Shaw Group gets busy, and the true sinister nature of Jim Bernhard's plan to corner the pipe fabricating industry starts to take shape with several more acquisitions.

Formed Shaw Nass Middle East, WLL, a partnership with Abdulla Ahmed Nass, a Bahrainian entity, to operate a fabrication facility in Bahrain.

To understand how to quietly BUY FAVOR, and to understand the Shaw Groups war profiteering under the George Bush Third Reich, you have to track the campaign contributions that give a company access, such as this example from a Shaw Nass Middle East Employee: (One has to wonder how many other Shaw Group employees were encouraged or coerced into making political contributions?)
Jack and Sims Gen Mgr / Reg. Nurse
Shaw-Nass Middle East Ltd. George W. Bush
$500 1624 Bomi Circle
Winter Park, FL 32792

Formed Shaw-Formiconi, CA (now known as Manufacturas Shaw South America, CA), a partnership with Formiconi CA to operate a fabrication facility in Venezuela.
Acquired Shaw Sunland Fabricators, Inc which put the company's employee base just below 2,000.

In 1996 and 1997 Shaw Group would have serious labor problems with Sunland and another company in the Baton Rouge area, both represented by local 198. Several Union members who did not want to be identified, but were around at the time freely accuss Jim Bernhard and the Shaw Group of Union busting, and one was convinced that Shaw Group A) out sources jobs, and B) may be using illegal workers (Hurricane Katrina was mentioned in this charge). We here at Green Nuclear Butterfly cannot verify this information, so like much of this artcle it is speculative and forward thinking, and falls under the heading of heresay.

Changed name to the Shaw Group Inc and went public with 3.125 million shares on the NASDAQ at $14.50.

Was the name change necessary for the stock offering, seeing as it was ALREADY OWED by someone else? Do your homework there JIMMY BOY! Anyone else a bit amazed here at this company's sky rocketing growth...could it have anything to do with Jim Bernhard's DADDY, AND THE DADDIES of his two original partners? It's not what you know, but who you know jumps to mind here.

In 1994 Shaw acquired the Fronek Company, Inc. and FCI Pipe Support Sales, Inc.

In a deal made in 2004, the Fronek assets were sold.

One important fact here. Jim Bernhard likes to paint himself and the Shaw Group out as good environmental stewards, in short, GREEN LEADERS. So why is it most of their holdings seem to be major polluters wherever they are located?

In 1996 they acquired Word Industries Fabricators, Naptech, Inc. and stock of Alloy Piping Products and Pipe Shields. Inc.

Sure are a lot of acquisitions going on...also, how is the other family business benefitting from all this elimination of the competition?

In 1997 Shaw acquired United Crafts, Inc., Merit Industrial Construction, Cojafex BV in Holland, Prospect Industries, plc, and Lancas, CA in Venezuela.

The most interesting acquisition in 1997 was Cojafex BV in Holland.

In 2000 Shaw joined with the Entergry Corporation to create Enetergy/Shaw LLC and acquired all assets of Stone and Webster, Inc..

Here with the Entergy Partnership, we see Shaw Groups attempt (through a lot of inside information?) begin to position itself to profit from the supposed Nuclear Renaissance in the same fashion it has profitted from the Iraq War, and Hurricane Katrina. Buying Stone and Webster out of bankrupcy in a predatory fashion gave the Shaw Group the beginnings of their PAPER CREDENTIALS.

In 2002 Shaw opened a facility in Cgina and acquired The IT Group, Inc., bringing the company's employee total to 18,000.

The IT Group purchase along with some ownersip secured in Westinghouse gave Jim Bernhard the credentials to do what he wanted...testify before a Senate Sub Committee and encourage them to embrace and fund the Nuclear Renaissance, while failing to mention his own (and his company's) biased conflict of interest in taking such a position.

In 2003 Shaw acquired stock of Envirogen, Inc. and MWR, Inc., assets of Badger/P&C and stock of Energy Delivery Services.

In 2004 Shaw created a joint venture, Shaw CENTCOM Services, LLC, with construction companies in Iraq, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

Interesting to note here, that almost as soon as Shaw inked the deal with Centcom, tens of millions in Defense Contracts came rushing through the door.

In 2005 Shaw was awarded contacts with FEMA and the Army Corps of Engineers to assist in Katrina related recoveries.

In addition to his contacts with George Bush, and the Seargent at Arms for the Senate, seems Jim Bernhard picked a good time to be friends with the governor of Louisana, though her flying to a bowl game in Shaw Groups PRIVATE JET played no part in the $100's of millions in new bid contracts Shaw Group received for Hurricane Katrina.

There is far more to write about when it comes to the Shaw Group, but one thing is for sure...If I owned stock in this company, I'd personally DUMP IT.

1. The public record show them to be MAJOR POLLUTERS OF THE WORST KIND.

2. THEY SEEM TO BE OPPORTUNIST using their Washington contacts to get rich at the taxpayers expense...be interesting to know if Jim Bernhard is friends with Tom DeLay or Dick Cunningham.

3. They are WAR PROFITEERS-they have RAKED IN over $3 BILLION in Defense Contracts over in Iraq, but ask them what they have done for the families of the 19 Shaw Group employees KILLED IN IRAQ for their corporate GREED.

4. Entergy owns to of the most dangerous Nuclear Reactors in the world that are leaking Strontium 90 and Tritium into the Hudson River...Shaw Group holds their maintenance contract, need I say more.

Green Nuclear Butterfly Quoted in Z Magazine!!!

ACCIDENTS:
Nukes on our Roads
by Michael Steinberg

Several recent accidents on U.S. interstate highways involving trucks carrying radioactive materials have revealed heightened activity in the transportation of such dangerous materials, as well as new growth in the nation’s nuclear infrastructure.
Michael Steinberg quoted Sherwood Martinelli's alter ego Porgie Tirebiter in his article, which is available online to subscribers.

Z is an independent monthly magazine dedicated to resisting injustice, defending against repression, and creating liberty. It sees the racial, gender, class, and political dimensions of personal life as fundamental to understanding and improvingcontemporary circumstances; and it aims to assist activist efforts for a better future.

These are two other nuke articles by Michael available free.
Greenpeace Urges Shut Down Of U.S. Nukes
Tooth Fairy Project

The March issue of Z also includes an article about the Prussian Blue sisters, Lynx & Lamb, now 14, who are being used by neo-Nazis to spread white supremacist propaganda under the guise of child pornography... The missuse and pollution of these children's minds, is just as twisted as the nuclear industry's attempts through NEI and CASEenergy to mutate and pervert our young people into believing that nuclear energy is green energy. The girls can't carry a tune... but maybe once they grow a brain, they'll be able to carry ours.
Z stems from Woods Hole, MA and is available at most decent newsstands.

Did Penthouse Go Green for Earth Day?

In the "The Wife Aquatic" episode of the Simpsons, the family goes back to Barnacle Bay, a vacation destination that has declined because of overfishing of the Yum Yum fish.

At the end of the episode, Lisa (the vegetarian, environmentalist, and moral compass of the show) gets the Barnacle Bay people to stop overfishing by coming up with a new industry for the island... which ends up being clearcutting the island's forests (much to Lisa's chagrin).

A logger then tells Lisa that all these big trees are being cut to make paper for Penthouse magazine! Which bums Lisa out even more.

Which is perhaps why, this month, their April issue, short of printing the magazine on recycled stock, Penthouse decided to go with the color "green" for their cover, with a radiant Dita Von Teese posing in a green corset!

Dennis Kucinich Moves Toward Articles of Impeachment

As the publisher of this blog, I worked very hard to get John Hall elected to office for three specific reasons. First, was his stated position against the nuclear industry, and his often public promise to close down the failing reactors that are Indian Point. He seemed against George Bush's wrong for America Nuclear 2010 Initiative, so he had my support.

Secondly, he felt everything about the Iraq War was wrong, and vowed to bring our troops home.

Lastly, he seemed willing to support Articles of Impeachment against the President and Dick Cheney.

Since he took office, I have not been overly happy with Congressman John Hall, in part because he has not done what he could be doing on these core issues. So, it is with unbridled glee today that I share with my readers Dennis Kucinich's next step towards bringing Articles of Impeachment against George Bush, and I call on Congressman John Hall to join in and whole heartly support this cause.

The Grid by Phillip F. Schewe

The Grid: A Journey Through the Heart of Our Electrified World
by Phillip F. Schewe
This is one book filled with juicy tid-bits... Half a chapter is dedicated to a guided tour of Indian Point... where the author writes: "nuclear and conventional power plants have a lot in common... they both use 19th Century physics."
This is how he describes it: "Visiting a nuclear reactor is a lot like going to the castle of the evil witch in the Wizard of Oz." and Indian Point as: "the most heavily defended industrial facility in the United States."
In fact the security for Indian Point is maintained by Wackenhut, the same outfit that handles the perimiter around the not-so secret Area 51, and a majority of our prisons, where 2 million people are incarcerated, slightly more than the mere 50.000 people locked up in Japan at any one time.
Which brings up the question, why does America, the land of the free, have 2% of its population in jail, while a country like Japan, the size of California, with almost as many citizens as ours, has so few of them behind bars?
In Grid we learn that Entergy controls 30,000 megawatts of electricity. One 1000 megawatts reactor, like the two currently operating at the Indian Point facility, possesses at the heart enough fissionable material equivalent of 1,000 nuclear bombs.
On page 212: "The Indian Point containment structure can sustain the direct hit of a commercial jetliner without rupturing, one is solemnly told by plant personel, although no direct test of this proposition has been made."
Phillip Schewer goes on to write: "The financial, regulatory, and public relations obstacles for a nuclear renaissance in the United States are formidable."
Phillip has a Ph.D. in particle physics and worked at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, helped to explore the inner structure of protons. He is also a playwright and a member of the Dramatists Guild.
There are to Phillip's credit, quite a few references to Nikola Tesla in the book, though none to Tesla Motors, makers of the new Hollywood super-toy, which defends its anti-nuclear EV advocacy by offering the car with a roof top photovoltaic system to charge it.

Where Is Summer Rayne Oakes and The Green Muffkateers In The Anti Nuclear Fight To Close Down Entergy's Indian Point and Their Leaking Reactors?

I can hear the feminist crying foul over the title, but sorry, the glass ceiling has been broken, and Nancy Pelosi took a sledge hammer to the marble one above that when she became Madam Speaker of the House. Move over Ralph Nader, as your days as the next Green Party Presidential Candidate are over! Perhaps the Environmental Movement and Green Drinks can convince Oprah to accept the nomination, and George Clooney can zip around America in his Tango giving speeches as her 2008 Vice Presidential running mate.

There's a Presidential ticket sure to get media attention, and carry the vote of the entire Grassroots community! After all, even Vanity Fair has done a Green Issue, and being environmentally friendly and concerned is the Green Wave to the future. In short, women are deciding all on their own, that they can use their sensuality and sexuality along with their brains as they brand themselves and build financial empires in the process. Perhaps nowhere is this reality and societal paradigm shift more prevalent than in the Green Fashion/Products industry where supposed Green Eco Chicks and Eco Babes wrap themselves up in the Ecology Flag and claim the title of Green Goddess.

We have a veritable army of 20 and 30 somethings trying to cash in on the Green Movement, and there is nothing wrong with Green Capitalism. However, to claim GREEN, to wrap yourself in the ecology flag as Earth Saving, Global Warming fighting Warrior of change out to save the world, you have to WALK THE TALK, have to make Green business decisions, and cannot sleep with, be business partners with those that are raping Mother Earth in the name of corporate bottom lines and improved profit projections.

Though there are numerous examples of this corruption of the Green Movement, no better example exists than the Nuclear Industry's attempts to steal the entire Green Movement as their own, as the NEI, CASEnergy and companies like Exelon and Entergy push for a Nuclear Renaissance with the false promise that nuclear power is the safe, vital GREEN answer to Global Warming, and the Birth Mother of the Hydrogen Economy as mini me, Greenpeace traitor "Patrick Moore" and his evil side kick Cruella DeVille, "Christine Todd Whitman" use the corrupted cash of the NEI to travel around the country as CASEnergy, singing the praises of the most earth damaging waste producers ever known to mankind, the Nuclear Industry.

Many of our finest young well meaning Green Entrepreneurs are being enticed with much needed capital investments from these corporate villains, beautiful young souls in the Green Movement seduced over to the dark side with 35 five pieces of silver, and the promise of wealth and fame in the coming Nuclear Renaissance. Look at Seth Leitman and his ETS Energy Store...just how did it come about that this seemingly educated GREEN Guy and EV fan end up partnering with BGA Engineering who has extensive business dealings with the Indian Point nuclear reactors that are dumping millions upon millions of gallons of irradiated waste waters into the Hudson River on a yearly basis.

Surely super Green Chick and self proclaimed Green Goddess Summer Rayne Oakes cannot believe dumping 2.4 billion gallons of 100 degree water into the Hudson River is good for the aquatic population, so why is she paired up with Seth, defacto embracing ETS Energy Store as a Earth Friendly Green Source for all of our Green Product desires? Is there some secret Trilateral Commission agenda between these three odd bedfellows wherein BGA Engineering at the appropriate time and place is going to come out against Indian Point after realizing they could earn far more money decommissioning these aging, brittling reactors than they could ever earn in helping to keep these ticking time bombs up and running?

So far, dirty politics, incestuous relationships between DOE, NRC, NEI and the Nuclear Industry have seen 50 of the 104 ancient failing nuclear reactors relicensed for 20 more years of operation as the Nuclear Industry plays Russian Roulette with the lives of 50 percent of America as host communities are forced and coerced to live in fear because of a false promise of a Green Nuclear Renaissance giving birth to Rosemary's Baby, a demon's spawn world destroyer pretending to be the Great Nuclear Driven Hydrogen Economy with a Green Electric Vehicle in every driveway...HELLO Joe DiMaggio, our nation needs you more than you can know, and someone please send out the word to the Eco Chicks hiding out on the West Coast, we need you as Heroines to save us from ourselves once again.

Bring on the Green Muffkateers, a full battalion of hot, sassy, self assured green vixens, their OMNIpotent presence ready to right wrongs as Betcee May Greens Up Penthouse, and Summer Rayne Oakes starts putting together the E-Team. In a play on the old 70's sitcom, I can see Cherokee Cher of "Silkwood" fame playing a more visible Charlie's Angel role, great Den Mother of a pack of fierce Green female Champions as they set out to slay the nuclear dragon.

She could perhaps be joined by the likes of Goldie Hawn (she's always struck me as the consummate earthy woman) and Demi Moore (who just happens to live right down the road from the Idaho National Labs, where Seth Leitman published his indictment of the Th!nk EV program, which almost crushed the entire Ford Th!nk EV fleet before the king of Norway himself had to step in!) who would look so hot dressed in gladiator's garb, shaved bald (a la G.I. Jane) as she led a dazzling array of Tangos and Tesla roadsters in a wild cross country Mad Max's meets Cannonball Run/Rama Road Rally treck across America to the entrance of Indian Point.

For old times sake we could throw Burt Reynolds a cameo appearance sitting at the Man Law Round Table complaining that he was not invited, which might allow us to bring in Miller Beer as a corporate sponsor as we set about greening the entire alcoholic beverage industry as a part of the deal...bring on the Clydesdale's for a spot on ethanol fuel as a part of the renewable stock portfolio.

We need Elmer Fudd to save our children from the nuclear industry's propaganda with another brilliantly done operatic educational piece as he turns to the audience and says, "Be very very quiet, we are hunting nuclear weactors." Maybe we can ask Angela Lindvall, Victoria's Secret supermodel, to play the part of Dorothy, a cute pooch by her side ready to pull aside the velvet curtain to expose Riverkeeper as the great pretender to the anti-nuclear throne that they are.

Sadly, many citizens in host communities around aging reactors such as Millstone, Pilgrim, Vermont Yankee and others such as my own Indian Point see this organization as the great white horse ready to ride in and help us in our just and noble cause...FORGET ABOUT IT FOLKS! At best, Riverkeeper and some of the other groups like them are NUCLEAR AMBIVALENT, neither for or against nuclear, but playing both sides to the middle to keep the donations pouring in.

The Riverkeeper board has both pro and anti nuclear members, and in an unholy alliance signed by the devil, these two opposing forces co-exist through a game of smoke and mirrors where Riverkeeper will not call for the closing of unsafe reactors, but will allow its members to pursue Nuclear Licensees if they can prove they are polluting our rivers and killing aquatic life.

However, in their pursuit of these crimes against humanity and our environment, these anti nuke warriors cannot actually state that Riverkeeper calls for the closing of a nuclear facility...call Lisa Rainwater on the phone, and sure she will quickly assure you she is anti nuclear, which usually sees most people, and the media jump to the conclusion that Riverkeeper is anti nuclear, and wants to see Indian Point closed down...not neccessarily true, and you are encouraged the ask her the all important follow up question:

"Yes Lisa, I understand you are anti nuclear and want to see Indian Point closed, but is Riverkeeper anti nuclear, are they willing to publicly call for the closure of Indian Point, Vermont Yankee, Pilgrim, Millstone and other aging nuclear reactors that are doing tremendous damage to our nation's rivers and their tributaries?" Better yet...does Riverkeeper directly or indirectly receive money from the nuclear industry, and those who support it.

Has anyone called up J.K. Rowling to see if Harry Potter is anti nuclear? Sure here, that Lord Voldermort would work for the NEI, but over all, cannot see this woman going over to the dark side, so we have to find a major role for her in this production! Sure she could come up with a great character, a woman of noble magic mixed blood who will do battle with the wicked witch as Betcee and company scale the walls to confront the two headed dragon known as Indian Point reactors 2 and 3.
We need our youth in the Grassroots of the Green Movement to WAKE UP to the truth that nuclear never was, and can never be the safe, vital, green energy that the Nuclear Industry Spin Miesters, Hill & Knowlton and Burson-Marsteller, want us to see it as. We need the Summer Rayne Oakes and Betcee May of the Green Fashion/Products industry to realize they cannot sit on the nuclear fence eating out of the hands of both sides in this war for our Mother Earth. It is time to pick a side and prepare for the fight, as the planet, our planet's future is being held in the balance. So Green Industry, what is it going to be? Are you a tofu Green Barbie or Ken doll looking pretty, but having no substance, or are you the stuff of legends, a warrior worthy of a major part in the epic battle of our time? The Earth's very existence may depend on the choice you make in the next days and weeks, as the lines are drawn in the sand.
